"I enjoyed my appointment with Jennifer Cheek overall and I would recommend her cutting and washing services as well as her coloring and styling services. I would predominantly recommend her styling and dying for clients with 1-3c hair and clients with treated hair textures. For cutting, people should be lining up out the door. She's not a barber, but her scissor work is great. Pros: -Clean and relaxed space -Great consultation skills -A boss with scissors on short natural 4a/b hair (loving my haircut, like I look amazing, get your hair cut by her of you can) -Plenty of patience (I have depression and the knots in my hair can be bad, she very kindly detangled my hair for me. An absolute gem with no judgement.) Cons: -Lacks some knowledge on newer natural hair styling verbage (I wanted to make sure my curls were defined before I left, but the combing of product through my hair without a final smoothing to promote clumping made my curls separate; I was also unable to get a style I wanted due to miscommunication though I now realize we were referring to similar ideas) -Bleach sat way too long (I lift pretty easily, the bleach sat for an hour when it was done lifting after 25 or so minutes; I probably should have called her but, you know, nervousness. I would've preferred some kind of check in, even just though texts or pictures) -Definitely needed a little bit of bleach on the sides of my head (Though I understood her concerns with hot roots, another method could've been to graze the bleach over my shorter hair lightly with her palms and fingers. While some of my roots may have been bleached, most would've survived with so little pressure and product. I also wouldn't have so much of a color mohawk, which I don't hate but it's not exactly my favorite) Hair is hair and my hair is short, so it'll grow out and I can get it adjusted however I want, so I'm not upset with how it come out. I've better learned how to communicate lol."
