"The Mad Boar was quite the experience with a very unique authentic Irish pub atmosphere. I enjoyed eating at the bar. The pork chop and Mac and cheese were recommended and delicious. The fried pecan pie was a must have if you stop in. Great location midway between Raleigh and Wilmington."
"Came here for Thanksgiving dinner on the way to the beach. Our server was wonderful and couldn't have been more attentive. Very nice atmosphere too. Most of the food was very good. The turkey was flavorful and juicy. The prime rib excellent and most of the sides very good. The stuffing was very compacted/stiff/tight as were the potatoes. The turkey gravy and the ham were extremely salty, which was a letdown, especially since I didn't find that out until I'd put it all over my gravy, meat, and potatoes. Lots of desserts to choose from once we found out they were in two different places in the restaurant which was after we already had a slice of the basic pumpkin pie which was over spiced. So with the exception of the great service and nice atmosphere overall the food was just so-so."
"I very rarely leave reviews but this place deserves this one. First off the music doesn't fit the atmosphere that they are trying to portray. Pop music in a "Irish pub" does not mix. Second the food was lacking all around, I'll give them the tater tots would be a wonderful hangover cure if in the need, but that's were the decent food ends. I ordered the brisket sandwich, and my wife got the Cuban sandwich and the mac n cheese. The brisket was very dry and over cooked with the bbq sauce smothering the sandwich being the only redeeming quality. The Cuban sandwich was overly salted and lacked in all things that make a good sandwich. Let's get down to what broke the camels back the Mac n cheese, us being a Mac n cheese enthusiast we typically order it at every restaurant we go to. But this stuff was terrible. it was so overly bland we didn't bother boxing it up to take it home."
"Absolutely love this place when traveling through. The atmosphere and food are both great. Literally feel like this place is a gem that you randomly find one day, then think about all the time afterwards. Wish I lived closer to it! The food is expertly crafted and I feel as though it is wasted on those who wolf it down. I want to highlight the shrimp and grits for a moment. Too often I find myself ordering shrimp and grits with excitement, only to be disappointed by mushy grits and overcooked shrimp. Both are easy to do. But here, oh here at the Mad Boar they craft it perfectly every time! The Cajun sauce, the grits, the tomatoes, and the shrimp! They are all perfect and oh so desirable. Oh and my wife said she liked the flatbread…ya know…because it’s bread. Anyway, give this place a try and experience the delicious food and timeless decor. Even though this place looks fancy, I find it kid/family friendly and I’ve only gone in shorts, so don’t feel like ya need to dress up. But if you did dress up, this place would be the best backdrop for some awesome photos."
"Fun Irish pub restaurant and bar. It was easy to get to right off of I-40. The inside is beautiful and I would encourage you to walk around and check it out - the stained glass is very pretty and some of it is from Ireland! There is a mix of tables and booths and they were able to accommodate our party of 6 with no wait. Our waitress was friendly and answered all of our questions. Our drinks from the bar were very good. We ordered the loaded tots, pretzel bites and crab dip as appetizers. We enjoyed all three. The portions were large and great for a group to share. We tried the pork tenderloin, steak, ribs and chicken wrap and enjoyed our meals - everything came out hot and was cooked well. The side salad was huge (and they have good ranch, IFYKYK.) I didn’t love the mac and cheese, but it was still good. We will definitely be back again."
