"If I was given the option to select no stars (or negative numbered stars), I would. Over ten years ago, Dr. Yoo diagnosed me with bipolar disorder. Prior to my actual sessions with him, I would have to wait nearly two hours to be seen due to his overbooking. That should've been my first red flag, but I was only 21 years old and it was my first time living away from home in a major move across the country. I was naive and desperate. So, after waiting upward two hours, Dr. Yoo would finally see me for my appointment, and that's where the nightmare began. He proceed to always - each appointment - bring up my "need" to engage in sexual activity to alleviate some of my mental health issues - this was HIS suggestion as a psychiatrist. This was completely inappropriate. I came to him and trusted him for mental health help and always ended up defending my stance on morality issues. Now, over a decade later, I've finally been treated by a brilliant psychiatrist who not only ruled out the bipolar diagnosis as true, but also mentioned how often it's misdiagnosed due to "lazy psychiatry." Now, I'm off my bipolar meds, and being treated for my real issues: depression and inattentive ADHD. I feel at my personal best (all things considered). I've felt shame, disappointment, and sadness from Dr. Yoo's misdiagnosis and his baseless, unprofessional comments. I've been taking unnecessary medications for years and living a "bipolar" narrative in my head that wasn't true. I can't rewind time, but I can help others. Please avoid being seen by Dr. Yoo. Use my cautionary tale as a reminder to always advocate for yourself...if something feels off or odd, listen to your gut. Dr. Yoo is the worst psychiatrist (on the east coast if not the U.S.) with clearly cash grabbing as an agenda, and I genuinely hope people struggling with their mental health never resort to his practice."
"Dr. Yoo is kind, thoughtful, compassionate and not without humor :) In this day and age when psychiatrists are so few and far between I feel fortunate to have found him,and am grateful for his dedication to his patients."
"Dr. Yoo is the one of the most compassionate, attentive, intelligent, and respectful doctors I have ever had. He always listens and takes copious notes during every visit. He does NOT try an push drugs on you and will always ensure that whatever treatment plan you're on is the right one for you. More than all that, I always FEEL like I'm in good hands when I speak with him. Also, as a bonus, his office is incredibly efficient at scheduling and they are always reachable. I have dealt with other psychiatry offices where no matter how many times you call, it's impossible to speak to someone or get an appointment. In short, if you think you need some help and Dr. Yoo is accepting new patients, I couldn't recommend a better doctor to look after you."
"I started seeing Dr. Yoo in 2019, after multiple failed attempts at seeking help with other providers. Dr. Yoo not only validated my concerns, but helped me explore all of them, and get the proper help I needed. Now, I’m much more managed and stable, and feel as though I am truly being helped with my mental health for the first time. I appreciate Dr. Yoo so much because he is very honest and straightforward. He won’t lie to you about your illness, or about treatment. He gives you all the facts, then asks for your opinion on it all as well. It’s a collaborative process, and not just your doctor barking orders at you. He truly cares and listens. I recommend him to everyone!"
"I started seeing Dr. Yoo a year ago after searching for a psychiatrist, for close to a year and a half; and I am very glad I did. Finding a good mental health professional, to connect with (psychiatrist, psychologist etc.) is difficult, and since the start of covid it's been almost impossible to find, ANY mental health professional let alone try to pick one that is the right match. I have been going to therapy since my early teens, and I can confidently say, that Dr. Yoo is the best psychiatrist I've had. Dr. Yoo has been attentive, compassionate, understanding, and comforting. I have never felt judged during our sessions, and he is always perceptive of any changes in mood, affect and behavior between sessions. Getting the right combination of medications is a long and often arduous process, but Dr. Yoo continues to work with me to try to find a combination of medications that will work in tandem to help improve my day to day living. Although we haven't fully cracked the code yet, I have noticed a significant improvement in my life. If you're looking for a psychiatrist that makes you feel at ease, heard and understood, and who works relentlessly to get his patients through the ups and downs of medication trials, and mental health struggles, Dr. Yoo is by far the best and most qualified, to get it done."
