Reviews
"Nice trail water is super clear, a lot of history in this place."
"Easy to moderate trail for kids, family or anyone . Please keep in mind, Parking is FREE but limited to 15-20 cars. So, be there as early as possible. The enitre loop around the lake , also called sterling lake loop - blue trail, is about 4 miles. This is very scenic trail and good for anytime of the year. There are many entry points to the lake to dip your feet and have fun. Water is very clean and full of various fishes, turtles and other creatures. If you are facing visitor center and go to your left on this blue trail, there is a beach for about 1.7 miles from visitor center. Beach is small and can be used to dip your feet but NO swimming allowed. Also, keep in mind, this is not stroller or disabled friendly trail. So, use your judgement. Boating , kayaking is also not allowed. There are several other trails in the area and map is available at visitor center to find what fits your need. We went during covid, masks are required to get in to visitor center as well as to use the restrooms there. Overall, I would definitely recommend going in here."
"Pros: - Easy trail - Mostly flat with 2-3 short elevation and 200 ft max - Has a mini beach at middle point is a nice reward - Less traffic - Signs are well maintained - View + Wildlife - 1-2 more overflow parking are made available nearby, between the original visitor parking and the East trail head Cons: - Could be muddy/flooded on the east side, particularly after rain. Definitely need waterproof hiking boots. - More bugs (a lot) on East side (temp only 70, not even summer time yet)"
"Great hike! Water is clean! No swimming allowed great history in the area."
"Nice easy-moderate trail. Mixed terrain - rocky dirt for most of it, some paved, a few areas are following or crossing the road. The path is well maintained, planks over muddy spots as needed and very clean. Part of it is shared with a mountain biking trail as well. The trail also intersects with the old iron works trail a couple times. The ruins of the iron processing are cool, so check that out too. Fauna: Lots of dragonflies, some butterflies, and an occasional chipmunk or frog. Some Canada goose in the lake too. It's a mostly tree lined shady path, with a lot of flying insects, so bring bug spray and avoid dusk. Free parking at the trail head with a visitor center with restrooms."
