"It is with pause & trepidation that I submit this review as this is a deviation from my norm but it would be a failure on my part to not speak up. I sincerely urge anyone in need of hospital admission not come to Capital Health especially Regional campus if you have an option. If you do not, I implore you to have an advocate hopefully well versed in medicine/healthcare. The care, or lack there of, beyond the emergency department was absolutely horrendous! I was forced to inform them after 36+ hours of absolutely no communication regarding my mother, who was admitted to the ICU, that I was a physician. Then & only then was I able to finally speak with someone. Why is this?! It shouldn’t have to come to that. My position should be irrelevant… but it wasn’t. This is an embarrassment! I know the healthcare system is broken but We have to be better than this… your patients deserve better than this! The only positive in this entire experience was the nursing staff, especially the ICU nurses. If it is in anyway in my or my mother's control, she will never return to this hospital system as she has received exceptional care in the past elsewhere."
"My daughter was in the ER since 11am. They are over capacity. A man was in an observation room hooked up to machines getting up out of bed and none of the doctors on duty noticed. I had to say loudly that man is getting up and he has wires pulling. I'm getting my daughter discharged and taking her home. Next time we'll go to Hopewell! This hospital is TRASH!"
"All I can say is the overall sentiment I received from the staff was a lack of care for their patients. I arrived to the ER because of my mother’s suicidal ideations. Every time I made a single request it was received as an annoyance, such as asking if a bucket of another patient’s bodily fluids could be removed from public view because it was leaving a stench in the hallway, or asking how much longer it would be until we saw a nurse after being there for an hour. a patient on the stretcher next to my mother’s was in police custody and obviously distressed, screaming and hitting herself. i saw that there were many police and security present and tried to ask her if her mother was coming since i overheard her on the phone with her. she stopped crying to speak with me, but i was told i could not speak to her because it “interferes” with police business. when i asked if i could sit down in a chair next to her without talking i was not allowed to do so. another security guard was brought out as i did not see how sitting in a chair near the patient was intervening with police work. he proceeded to tell me to “mind my business” because i was “running my mouth.” while i told him it was a rude thing to say he pointed to a nurse there and asked her to confirm i should be minding my business and she nodded to agree. i told him how i had a problem with him speaking to me that way and that he was escalating the situation further than it needed to be, when all i did was speak to another patient and asked to sit next to her. because of my “back talk” he called more security to escort me out of the hospital. i told them i would sit quietly and be with my mother and they told me it was too late. when i refused to leave because i did not want to leave my distressed mother for an unknown amount of time alone in the hallway of the ER since there were no rooms or beds available, the security guard proceeded to call the sheriff. it was then that i picked up my things and left the hospital and was not allowed to return. it has now been 8 hours since she has been in the ER. when i called again at 1:20am to ask for more information or when a doctor might arrive to see her the phone was hung up on me. the woman who answered the phone told me she cannot discuss medical information on the phone, but i asked if i am not allowed in the hospital how i am supposed to know any updates on my mother who will be alone for an unknown amount of time. she is not allowed to have other guests, including my father. it is clear to me that this hospital does not care about their patients when a concerned daughter is assumed a threat to a hospital. while i was there my mother told me that simply being there in the hallway was worse than the thoughts and feelings she had at home."
