"Never have I ever been treated like this at any bar or restaurant in NYC. As I am having some cider with my friend. The owner of the place kept walking by our table staring at us. I ignore it the first time. The second time it happened I asked him if everything was okay. He started lashing out hostility, yelling that he is the owner and that he doesn’t stare, he looks. Keeps yelling and yelling at us. Until he goes to the waitresses and yells, GET THEM THE CHECK, GET THEM OUT OF HERE. so we paid and left. I feel horrible for this man, for how unhappy he must be to be looking out for triggers to start fights in his own business. We were not being loud, we were in a corner with no one around us. This was completely out of nowhere and insane."
"People of a certain vintage will remember the soup episode of Seinfeld. Come here if you want to experience that. While the food is good and somewhat reasonably priced, do not come here if the elderly owner/Grinch is around. While I escaped his wrath, a table next to me got an earful because he was offended at the way they ate their pizza. That made for an awkward brunch and I was hoping that I wouldn't be next for a perceived sleight ( I did notice him give us the occasional side eye especially when we had our phones out wile waiting for the food) I eat at an establishment to relax, not to be stressed out by a rude and unpredictable owner."
"I was a little hesitant about dining at Edgar's because the reviews are all over the place. One thing that attracted me was a previous review that there are no laptops allowed. It told me the supposedly crusty owner wanted to maintain a proper relaxing experience. My friend and I both enjoyed our apps and entrees. The service was very attentive and polite. After we got the check, I went to give to the owner to tell him how great our waitress was. This supposed curmudgeon was happy and polite. Clearly proud of his business. I recommend Edgar's highly if you want a reasonably priced Italian dining experience. I'm definitely going back ASAP. And it's true: there is a "No Laptops" sign on the wall."
"I hate to do this but the situation calls for it. We chose this cafe due to its charming aesthetic and what seemed to be the perfect place for a work conversation between two colleagues. Right off the bat we see a sign saying “no laptops”. We were like, this isn’t great but luckily we had print outs, so we were fine. My colleague arrived earlier and had ordered herself $45 worth of food, me and one other person show up, I placed an order for tea, the third person was leaving in 5 so they didn’t want to place an order. We were forced to ALL THREE order something for us to be able to stay. This was confusing, since we had already bought $45 dollars worth of things… however we ordered him a tea. He left before the tea was finished seeping. Throughout our meeting the staff and who seemed to be the owner, hung around our table. Making it clear they didn’t like we were there for a business chat. We stayed for less than an hour, feeling like we were rushed the whole time, the staff being as kind as they were allowed but also following bizarre policies. Honestly, what was meant to be a great break from the office to address some light work with a colleague, ended up being stressful for no reason. Oh, and food was ok, not great. Go somewhere else y’all, there are so many welcoming and cute coffee shops that actually want your business."
"DO NOT GO HERE! I wish I did not have to write such a review but I have to tell people about the awful experience I had at this establishment. My aunt and I came to this restaurant for dessert on our way back from dinner. There was only two other tables dining in when we walked in. I have a severe nut allergy and when the waitress came to take our orders I asked if the cake I wanted was safe with my nut allergy. The waitress did not speak English very well (I have nothing against her, she was very sweet and attentive), so I kindly asked to speak to someone would understand. The owner came over and I tried to explain to him my nut allergy and I couldn’t clearly hear him, but my aunt could, so she answered his question. When she answered instead of me, he yelled at her for speaking (and I mean yelled, the whole restaurant started staring at us) and told her that he was talking to me and not her. Even after all of that my nut allergy was not clearly conveyed to the owner. Do not go to this restaurant if you have any dietary restrictions, it is clear that your safety is not a priority and the owner has no sense of customer service and should probably go to anger management based off of all of the reviews that I have seen and my own experience."
