"Since I have been going to Dr. Shostak my life has turned around, he is always been there for me via email, phone or in person. Dr. Shostak has helped me rebuild my life to a more positive one and helped me stay on the right path in life. He listens and doesn't just rumble off what a text book would tell him to say, he let's you know how, why, and what you need to do. Even just a week ago I tested positive for Covid-19 I sent him an email to let him know and he shortly called me to see how I was out of the kindness of his heart. He cares about his patients like people and not another pay check and shows true empathy on what you are going through. He connects with you on a personal level to where you feel comfortable and safe to spill everything to him and just let it out in an uplifting way to where you feel as if you just removed a backpack full of weights in them. I recommend him to anyone who ask me about him."
"He was very kind and knowledgeable. He took all the time I needed and explained everything to me. when I had questions, he always made sure to explain everything to me."
"Wow, these other reviews are awful; and while I see where they'e coming from, they don't tell the whole story. - not even by half! I've been a patient of Dr. Shostak's for several years, and not only does he understand what it's like to live with chronic illness and the neuropsych symptoms they can produce, he *actually listens*, which is the most important aspect for a doctor, IMHO. He's helped me fight my LTD insurers many times when they want to take away my monthly stipend based on crackerjack "file reviews" from doctors I've never seen. He does this by refuting their smarmy assumptions with real test results. Simply put, he knows his stuff, total incapacity with modern technology notwithstanding. Knowledge and a true desire to help are way more important than a newer office in a nicer part of town. It's Springfield and it's old - so what - that's most of Virginia! If it's paperwork you're after, he's enlisted the help of an office manager, Margaret, in the last 1-2 years; and has a call center now to help with the admin aspects of work. Both have improved matters greatly. He's very busy though, so you have to check back sometimes - but that's the mark of a good doctor. I wouldn't trust a doctor that didn't seem too busy. So if you want a flash doctor, with all the modern trimmings and b.s., look elsewhere! If you want the real deal, come see him - he's worth it!"
"Would not recommend. He seems like a nice person, but I have been waiting over 3 months for a written report. His secretary is very unprofessional. No credentials anywhere. Office smells funky. Just generally not a good practice."
"Dr. Shostak seems to be a kind and well-intentioned man, but his lack of professionalism in his communications (particularly written communications) is truly astounding. I find it difficult to reconcile the nice, intelligent man I spoke to about my child's educational issues with the report/educational assessment results I received. My child's school, after looking it over, actually encouraged me NOT to give it to them because they had so little confidence in his findings and the almost unintelligible recommendations he gave. What he told me in our meetings and on the phone was not supported in his report, and was in fact completely absent from the report. I hate to leave such a negative review, because as I said, he seems to be a kind person who is genuinely interested in helping people. But truthfully, he seems totally incapable of following through with that and as a result, the decision to see Dr. Shostak has meant a major setback for my child's education."
