First Discovery Academy at Indian River 5355 Lila Lane, Virginia Beach, VA 23464

"I have had numerous issues with this daycare in the year and some change my son has been going here. The final straw was being lied to about my child's temperature requiring a pick up and me missing work. I was told 100.9 on the phone. His teacher told me low grade around 99.5. I asked the director whom called me to take it, and got 98.5. This is only a small glimpse at the garbage they will pull. Requires me to question every other time they required me to pick him up for a high temp. Not to mention stories I have heard directly from the staff of unsafe conditions children are in and not being up front with parents because they don't want to do deal with them."

"UPDATE 3/26/23- I was contacted by the owner of First Discovery in regard to this review. I expressed my concerns in regard to the staff’s professionalism, communication, and knowledge of policies. She apologized for my experience and informed me that the situation could have been handled better and needed to be handled better in the future. I was informed that all staff will be retrained on policies and customer service skills to provide a more professional and uniformed response when speaking to any staff member. I’m looking forward to this training taking place and will provide updates to my review as needed to help future families looking for the best child care for them. Once staff training takes place I will update the star rating further than 3 stars. Original Review 3/23/23- I would appreciate a phone call from the owner of First Discovery Academy to discuss an interaction that has happened at one of their locations. This interaction took place with the interim Director, executive Director, and the previous director at this facility which makes me feel like I have no one else to speak to other than the Owner. I look forward to your response to this review so that we can clear up any confusion and discuss this situation further. Thank you."

"my kids have never been happier! they were going to a kindercare and when we switched i noticed a huge difference in their behavior. couldn’t be more grateful for all the wonderful teachers. they always tell me little things the kids did throughout the day. so many great things about this daycare!"

"My daughter has Gone here for the past year and we couldn’t be happier! All the staff is kind and patient, it makes leaving her so much easier knowing how much fun she had every day. She has learned so much in pre k that will definitely get her prepared to start school this fall. It’s also very reassuring that they have the security they do. All around would recommend them to anyone with children!"

"We love First Discovery! As first time parents we were nervous about this transition for our son but by week two my son was waving bye to me as he was walking in and as hard as it is to see him become a big boy it’s so reassuring that we chose the right place for him. The staff is so amazing and so kind! They always have the kids doing activities and will even send pictures throughout the day! I love that I get notified throughout the day about how he’s doing and if he ate, napped and all the diaper changes."
