Rivers of Hope Counseling

"Rivers of Hope billed my insurance incorrectly last year, then threatened to send me to collections via letter when I couldn't get them to call me back when I left messages. That did finally get sorted out several months ago, but... Today, out of the blue, I received a large bill for every session going back over 15 months, including all those that had been settled. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to cancel appointments going forward because I can't keep expending energy fighting their incorrect billing. Edit, 9/7/23: Response says that this was worked out, but it was not. Edit: 1/27/24: Received another bill from my insurance, after a 'correction' made by Rivers of Hope. The total for *surprise* bills (on top of all the bills I expected and already paid) now exceeds one thousand ($1,000) dollars."

"I work with Yvette for about almost a year now. My sessions with Yvette came at a critical point in my life. I have never seen a therapist before and I was afraid to but I'm glad I did. When we had our first session, I was a little shy about opening up to her. As time went on, I'm happy to say that her therapy and non-judgemental feedback made it easier for me to open up to her. She always gave me her undivided attention and helped me gain confidence, assertiveness and appropriate boundaries with my children and other people. "I booked a session with Yvette. The entire intake session her 2 phones were ringing. When I asked if she could turn them down she said she had to keep them on because of emergencies. In all my years of therapy/counseling I have never experienced or heard of such a thing. It really made me feel like what I had to say was not that important/she wasn't focused. I shared my concern with friends and mental health professionals and they immediately advised me to switch counselors. When I called to switch, the man asked why. I told him. All he said was "ok" and to go online and pick a new person. He didn't acknowledge how unprofessional that was. Okay, whatever. So I asked him who he would recommend out of the parameters I am looking for. He said "read their bios". I explained to him bios are clearly misleading and I need someone meeting my concerns outside of a crafted paragraph. He set me up with someone. The new person was very nice and accommodating but she never showed up for our session. It's just disappointing. Taking in the first reaction to my concern from that man, and reading other reviews, I have no faith in expressing my concern to them but through Google. Most companies are more responsive to public reviews than internal. But, onwards to another company. I wish them success and anyone who uses them."
