Reviews
"Everything everyone else has said is absolutely true. The staff were awful and ableist (and honestly felt LGBTQphobic to me), the policies were awful and ableist, everything was awful. It left me with lasting trauma that still impacts me to this day, as well as messing up my entire academic life, personal life, and social life. I'd give it 0 stars if I could. For anyone who is being told to send their child here, I would highly advise AGAINST it."
"i agree completely with left hand slaps's review. when i was there we were given opportunities to talk and process, provided you didn't bring up anything that was deemed triggering. kids did randomly disappear, and yes, that was one of the forbidden topics. the psychiatrist refused to talk to me if i was fidgeting or bouncing my leg. they would repeatedly pressure me to speak in front of the group to the point where i'd cry or have panic attacks and they did nothing, reporting that i was being willfully defiant. they discharged me with no warning- as in, they called my parents and said don't come back. i didn't get to say goodbye to anyone. it wasn't long before i was hospitalized. (wpic treated me a lot better as an inpatient on 11 west). i was actually sent back here again as a step down, this time virtually because of covid, and it was a pretty similar experience. needless to say, it wasn't much help, and i'm now writing this from a school computer at a long term residential treatment facility. @sea sea I was there in February/March 2020, right before quarantine started, then again in December 2020"
"I wasn't going to complain, most of the staff are professional, but their administrative side is unfoundedly incompetent. Great mental health therapists, terrible clerical services."
"If you have a suicidal teenager, DO NOT SEND THEM TO PARTIAL!! As a survivor of this program, it left me with lasting trauma. The place is run like a prison, complete with lineups and random bag searches. You are not allowed to go to the bathroom unless supervised. You are under constant surveillance. All conversations are heavily monitored and outside contact with other kids was strictly forbidden (although it happened anyway). People would frequently disappear with no warning or explanation, and talking about it was forbidden. Talking about most things was forbidden, actually. Also, there are no windows in most of the complex, which further contributes to the dystopian feeling. Beyond the traumatizing environment, the services offered are poor and ineffective, and the structure of the program is not conducive to recovery. For starters, students are taken out of school full time and only given an hour and a half each day to catch up on all the work they’re missing. If it was possible to do an entire day of schoolwork in less than two hours, that would be fine, but in reality it makes workloads unbearable for those who wish to stay active in school and almost encourages suicidal thinking for kids who feel they’ve fallen too far behind (a common sentiment). The two main types of therapy used here are CBT and DBT, both of which take a “skills-first” approach. I am not an expert in textbook therapy so I can’t speak for everyone, but I have had suicidal depression, and I can personally say that these forms of therapy are less effective than experts would have you believe. While I was there, only about a third of the other kids there “graduated.” The rest either got hospitalized (most of them), got kicked out, or committed suicide. If someone disappeared suddenly, it wasn’t hard to connect the dots and figure out something happened to them. But we weren’t allowed to talk about that. In conclusion, the 1984-esque environment and ineffective structure and methods mean this place is bad news. I warn anyone before sending your depressed teenagers here: I am still in therapy dealing with the additional trauma this program caused."
