"Office staff is horrible. The property manager lets the leasing manager do whatever she want. Apartments are very ghetto and section 8 like. Maintenance is horrible. Something is always broke. Management locks you out the house and then confronts you like you made the mistake. Really not a gated community cause they gate is always broke. Would not recommend. Get somewhere worth the money. These apartments are not worth the trouble. Very GHETTO"
"Do not move to Owings Mills Gates! The leasing office consists of people who do not respond and lie! Many of our calls and/or emails were ignored. When we went to the leasing office, there was never concern or immediate action. On the day we were scheduled to move in, no one from the leasing office was there to give us the keys. We had to call several numbers before we finally reached someone. Our move in was delayed. We were informed that our personal info was lost or possibly taken by the former property manager. During our year, management changed three times. During our stay, we received several notifications from management regarding we did not notify management about our pet. We didn’t have a pet. The maintenance staff or management would make unscheduled visits. I guess to verify that we had a pet. The apartments are falling apart. The bathroom light fell on my husband’s head. The air conditioner stopped working several times during the summer. The washer and dryer stopped working immediately after moving in and it took almost a month to receive a replacement. Maintenance attempted to resolve the repair issues with little or no help from management. Our security deposit wasn’t returned because management stated we didn’t pay our final water bill. However, you can’t pay your rent until you pay the water bill. We requested the final bill in October 2021 and never received it. The community is filthy. Trash is everywhere on the grounds. During a snowstorm management sent an email threatening to tow cars during because vehicles were parked incorrectly. The lines were covered in snow. Customer service and upkeep are substandard!"
"Update 8/10 - In the last two weeks it seems that they are trying to fix some of these issues. They power washed the buildings and have come out after hours to deal with the trash outside the dumpster. Just want to give credit where credit is due! And If improvements continue I will gladly take down my review. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT choose The Gates of Owings Mills as your new home. Signature Properties has completely ruined this community since they took over from Dolben in December 2019. The Gates USED to be a nice, clean, well-maintained place to live. Now, as others have pointed out, the problems are numerous: property grounds consistently littered with trash (see photos below), pool closed/turning green, buildings need to be power washed, extreme lack of communication from leasing office (I don’t even think they come in to work half the time), problems with extra charges or lost payments, and many new neighbors who litter, blast music in their cars in the middle of the night, and have guests who don’t seem to know the gate codes (so they ride your bumper to get in behind you or block the gate causing backups). I have been trying to communicate with the leasing office about the trash and the pool for months. They NEVER answer the phone. They left my numerous messages unanswered. It wasn’t until I left a message with the corporate office that I got a call back. A woman explained that they were still hoping to open the pool but with Covid they needed permits and special cleaning. This was weeks ago. Our pool is still closed and is now turning green….meanwhile other apartments in the area have their pools open and operating. Signature didn’t even make a decision about opening the pool until after Memorial Day because they just can’t seem to be bothered with the happiness of their residents. They didn’t communicate any of this with us either. I had to call over and over again to find out this information. I do want to point out that I have nothing but nice things to say about the Maintenance guys. I use the online service to report my problems and they promptly come to fix it. They are very friendly and professional! I truly appreciate that. Be sure to use the online service because the one time I reported an issue through the leasing office they wrote down the wrong apartment number and no one ever came. I would’ve lived here for many years to come if Dolben was still in charge but the consistent lack of care/communication exhibited by Signature Properties means I’ll be looking to move out as soon as it is feasible. And I’m a pretty understanding person...I took down a previous negative review about the trash to give them a chance to fix the problem but nothing has changed so here we are. "This place has gone way down since signature properties took over and its been a downhill mess. They moved anybody in here especially during the pandemic. For the high rent paid,tenants aren't receiving any services,aren't kid friendly. we haven't been able to use the pool even b4 covid and the weight room is so spooky ,its unsafe after dark. They need to install cameras at the gate bc these visitors that aren't able to get in will ride right through the gate and sometimes have broken it. These new neighbors are rude, and ignorant. They leave trash all over, buildings are very dirty. Trash stays lingering for many days at a time. Office staff rude,and will tell u anything to get you off the phone. Fees are charged erroneously. Rent Increases are definitely not worth it. My family has been here for a long time and this is definitely gotten worse. They've gotten over on residents horribly during the pandemic and many are upset and unhappy. Legal aide needs to be notified. My lease is up soon and I will be running out of here. Instead of game nights and such, it would be nice to have the buildings Power washed and the complex more well kept as it was prior. Maintenance is awesome.I feel bad 4them BC they're not getting their worth either but they're good guys. Oh and the fire alarms stay going off for no reason,its extremely loud and will destroy your day. I would love to give this place no star at All. Signature properties wants money money and more money, but doesn't want to maintain this property as it should be maintained. Rent increased now and we have nothing gained as far as the property is concerned. This is awful. Staff are barely in the office during business hours."
