"I was expecting something else considering the pictures they have all over the county. However, this place is not pleasant or beautiful, or worth of a visit to be honest."
"Every season this park is absolutely beautiful. Even when covered in snow, tromping thru with the dogs and kids was a blast and some extra fun exercise outside. We didn't hit the trail in snow, but I saw snow shoe tracks! We enjoyed the normal path with the historical markers around the canal. The bridge was wonderful for a few family photos!! And we found a gnarly tree to sit under while some snow fell! Absolutely stunning!! You'll drove right by this place and never truly enjoy it's serenity. Visit during week close to sunset or sunrise."
"Followed the Whole canal route and it is a great journey."
"We live so close to this trail that we go here often. In the fall we like to take the canal half way and then jump on the first trail next to it and climb up the hill to the second trail. We take that then to the mines. The canal trail is beautiful in all seasons and easy to walk. It’s perfect for our moms and family that want to take a stroll. You can take the path all the way down and connect to another trail that goes to town."
"Great place for walking when you want a level, comfortable two mile walk alone or with your dog. Here you have a mile of grassy road surrounded by marshes on one side, the old canal on the other side. The surface is soft and cushy, and pretty dry even after or during a spring rain, since the roadway is raised. Not much traffic in the spring, plenty of birds to watch and the path is far enough from highway 209 that the traffic noise is inoffensively low. The mile long path has multiple historical signs with photos and details about the overall D&G canal history including much information about other canal parks and sites I'm now in the process of visiting. You can park at the visitor center (now closed, but probably open by memorial day) wander the ruins of the lock to the north of the visitor center then take the walkway to the south to Summitville. Don't miss the last bit when you come to the gate at Summitsville. Cross the street and take the path to the right that leads up and around a small hill. You'll be rewarded with a nice view of the river and valley beyond, perfect for the halfway point. There is a parking lot here too, so one could start their walk at this end, across from Ferguson Road and 209. Now return along the path, everything looks fresh and different from the opposite direction. There's a very noisy goose along the way. Doesn't like walkers invading his territory. Lovely little walk!"
