"The stylist butchered the most simple haircut possible. This was a simple clipper job – the length isn't remotely even and the top is even worse. I wasn't offered a mirror to view the back. I didn't ask because I assumed anyone who gets paid to cut hair could handle "shave the back evenly". I had it redone at a professional salon and I suggest you do the same."

"I was looking to get a trim and I was excited to try out The Shop as I just moved back to DC and have been looking for a new salon. My appt.was for 12:30 pm, and I waited for 1 hour and 20 minutes to be seen by the stylist Maria (who did not once come over to me to communicate that she would be running late). Finally, as I saw her wrapping up the previous clients' hair, I saw her and the client standing up and chatting for an extra 15 minutes before he left and I was invited to the chair at 1:50 pm. I have never felt more invisible in a salon before- I had even gone up to a different stylist and asked if they had time for me as I had been waiting for over an hour at this point. Once seated, I communicated my feelings to Maria and she did apologize, letting me know that the haircut price would be discounted for the long wait. Then, at the end of my service, she told me that the fee would be waived entirely, which I thought was professional and showed that my experience as a client mattered. I proceeded to leave a generous tip, thinking that this would be my full cost, only to see the full service amount charged to my credit card a few days later. This has been an incredibly frustrating experience and I do not recommend this salon."

"I don’t like to get so blunt and aggressive on reviews, but with how aggressive this stylist was with my head, full transparency is fully warranted. I have never had a worse hair styling experience than I did here. I came in to get a blowout by Kathyana and had my head abused during the whole process. I made her aware that it had been a week since my hair’s last wash in order to preserve the color for my birthday and she didn’t take a second to detangle my hair before going straight to wash bowl. From the way she washed my hair to the way she hit my head with her brushes many times, it was all around abusive and instantly created a headache. I arrived 5 min late to my 3:00 appointment, as I’m from out of town and struggled to find the place, I had to wait another additional 5-10 min and she was still done by 3:36. That’s a joke. I specifically asked for volume at the base and round brushed ends…got the flattest base and the straightest ends I have ever had in a styling. Then she has the nerve to say she “can make it curlier, but that’s an additional service” I had to walk out and collect myself before walking back in and asking that another stylists tries to fix the mess. All that could be done was a quick curl or else I’d have to come back in an hour and I didn’t have time for that on my birthday when I’m visiting from out of town. Do it right the first time. Even the person who curled my hair seemed really bothered to be doing so and If it wasn’t for the kindness of the woman who was trying to help with rescheduling, it would been a single star. Other stylists in there seemed to be doing a great job styling their clients’ hair and I was actually seeing volume on others. My review only reflects my experience with one stylist, and that experience makes this place look like it lacks in talent and survives off of doing a terrible job initially then selling additional services. I walked in telling this woman I was having the best day of my life and that it was my birthday and she completely killed that excitement. Incredibly pretentious, unimpressive, disappointing, very miserable vibes. Didn’t give anywhere near what it was supposed to give."

"Jessica has been doing my hair for 3 years, and has done it at every length--from a 1in pixie to the long hair it is now--and has done many different colors for me, too. She is a rockstar. She's incredibly passionate (I'm actually not sure I've seen someone who loves their job more), fun to spend time with, and does incredible work. Can't recommend her and The Shop highly enough."
