Reviews of Sushi Nakazawa
"Incredible experience and memory that will change the way you think about omakase. We had the new years omakase special at the sushi bar, and what an unforgettable meal it was. Level of service and attention to detail were above and beyond. Chef Lin also explained to us the origin and history of each fish and answered all of our questions. We loved learning about the sourcing and unique elements of each dish, from the crown melons that only grow one fruit for each plant, to the rice that they import from Japan and mill each day. The table service was also insanely good - immediately noticing that I was left handed and placing each piece for me, and the friendly banter, everything was just perfect."
"As you'd certainly expect, the food itself was delicious and it was a treat watching the chefs prepare each bite. However, I would've loved more explanation on the various pieces, other than just what kind of fish it is. Like there was salmon from New Zealand. Why New Zealand? How is that different from the salmon we just ate? What should I be trying to taste? Even basics like "the fish is delivered every day blah blah, the chef tastes each cut blah blah, etc." You watched the chef make each piece, then he'd place it before you and say, "this is FISH_TYPE from ORIGIN" and that's it. Again - it was delicious - but a certain level of detail and storytelling is what elevates other DC fine dining , like minibar and kinship, to a full experience rather than just a meal. At over $250 per person, I felt somewhat underwhelmed. There was a missed opportunity to really WOW people. Also... sit at the sushi bar. The dining room gets an inferior experience for basically the same price. The couple next to us got the super omakase and it didn't seem worth it unless you absolutely HAVE to have the wagyu nigiri or truffles and caviar."
"Wow. What a once in a lifetime treat. The service was something I have never experienced. The food was fresh, Jeff our sushi chef was perfection. This was a wedding gift to us and it was an experience I will never forget."
"A perfect experience. We were intimidated to try a Michelin star restaurant but the staff was so friendly , professional, kind and passionate that we were put at ease almost instantly. It goes without saying that the food was out of this world , but the knowledge of the staff behind each piece was extremely impressive . This is an expensive treat for any sushi lover , but I would argue that you need to go if you can afford it . It was such a unique experience that our party will remember forever ."
"sat at the chef’s counter and did the super omakase. they only offer it at the counter and only when the Chef feels like it. if it’s on the menu, do it. it’s worth the extra money. everything we had was absolutely phenomenal— best food i’ve had in DC and easily the best sushi i’ve had. also, i don’t know much about sake, but the sommelier was fantastic at getting us to the right bottle. we told him what cocktails we like and our price point and he brought a bottle that was perfect."
