"I took my children to see Elf the Musical. They have never experienced a live play before. What an amazing experience! The theater is very intimate. I'm not sure how many seats it has, but it is tiny enough to make you feel like the performers are singing directly to you! Also, I had an issue getting my tickets electronically emailed to me. I went inside to the box office, and the woman happily helped locate my name in the system and printed them out for me! The theater is a non- profit organization, I believe. There was a place where you could make a donation and hang a name placard on the tree. I guess it is necessary for them to receive continued donations in order to stay in operation. There is a neat little "candy bar" inside that sells whole candy bars, snacks, soda/ coffee/wine. It was really a fabulous experience for the whole family. The show itself was a bit long..like 2.5 hours, but there was an intermission. That was really the only challenge, and it's only because my children had difficulty sitting that long. Other than that, the price was right, the performers were amazing, and it was something new to experience right in our backyards! I highly recommend visiting Steel River. It brings the live arts to a small town that's really been trying to revitalize itself over the past decade."
"We just saw the play Elf and loved it! If you like theatre; plays, musicals and comedy improv, then you must visit Steel River Playhouse located on High Street, right in the center of Pottstown, Pa. There are two theatre rooms. One downstairs and one upstairs. Wherever you are seated, you can hear and view the stage comfortably. Each performance is exciting to see. The actors consist of both seasoned professionals or upcoming talented amateurs, depending on the show. Either way, you will not be disappointed. There is a snack bar on the premises and you can purchase both alcoholic or non alcoholic drinks also. The seats are plush and comfortable. The venue and bathrooms are clean. A plus side of the Playhouse being on High Street is that you can walk the street before or after the show to get a bite to eat at several different places or browse some shops. There is no charge for parking on Saturdays and Sundays so you can park curbside on the street or there are several parking lots available. Steel River also offers instrumental lessons and has summer camp programs for children."
"Stumbled upon this place while looking for a local place to enjoy and decided to go to. For a small theater, they put on a big show! The production is excellent. The talent sings, dances, and acts for the shows. The stage always looks great. The lighting and music and everything is on point. Tickets are only $30. They offer concession with some snacks, drinks, wine, and beer. The lobby area has some seating and tables. Bathrooms are very clean. Staff are friendly. Theater chairs are comfy. I would highly recommend it!"
"I love that I found this in downtown Pottstown! The people here are so friendly and the environment is great! I saw the Addams Family here and it was funny and just a good time. Great for a date night that's not overly expensive."
"Charming local playhouse, I've been there for a rendition of Its a wonderful life and Suessical, both were pretty good. As to be expected from a more local place, its not of the same quality as a larger, more well funded theatre, but the actors are all passionate and clearly put their soul into their performances, and that energy is infectious."
