"Springfield's historic district generally corresponds to the densely developed area downtown along Main Street although there are significant buildings up Park Street as well. There are a number of churches and industrial sites, some privately owned and/or awaiting restoration. As a destination visit Comtu Cascade Park, a riverfront park on the Black River. There are 4+ prominent waterfalls with walking distance, some of which are lighted dramatically at night. The town is installing monumental sculpture of an early spring-loaded clothespin patented by Springfield Inventor David M. Smith in 1853. For a tour of a beautiful neighborhood of historic homes head up Summer Street, or bear left at the large cemetery as you climb the hill to visit the Hartness House, an historic inn that once hosted Charles Lindbergh. Hartness House also features a museum dedicated to amateur telescope making. There's a large, functional Porter turret telescope in the garden. For many years Springfield has hosted the Stellafane Amateur Astronomy Convention that celebrates both cutting edge and historical ingenuity in the creation of telescopes. Further out Clinton Street (on the road to Exit 7 & Charlestown, NH) you will find the Eureka Schoolhouse, the oldest one-room schoolhouse in Vermont. There's also a relocated covered bridge in the small park that hosts the Eureka Schoolhouse. Finally, Springfield, VT is the OFFICIAL Springfield of The Simpsons! The Simpsons Movie premiered here in 2007 after residents won a video contest. Oh go ahead--come to Vermont and "have a cow!""
