"While I understand many businesses are short-staffed, and that the definition of “clean” may be subjective, the conditions in which I found the rental and subsequent time spent cleaning, doing laundry, and mitigating issues left by previous renters was below acceptable standards. For a $275 cleaning fee, someone is clearly falling down on the job. Highlights included filthy floors, mold on the ceiling in the bathroom, and not enough sheets to fit all of the beds. But the real highlight was, after spending a morning cleaning the entire house (how does anyone leave dried cheddar cheese on the floor?), opening the shed to grab beach supplies and finding MOUNDS of GARBAGE/RECYCLING. Though the rental office was at least responsive with removing a fraction of the garbage that had accumulated and blocked access to amenities (e.g. bikes, beach chairs, etc. promised in the listing), there was still more garbage than someone paying that much for a rental should have to deal with. The rentals manager has since been unresponsive to my request for a refund for the cleaning fee so I've been in touch with the owner to let them know their property and personal reputation is in jeopardy by continuing to let their unit be manage by a substandard company. Whether it's Jean Knapp rentals or the cleaning company, someone is being negligent."
"After what feels like 25+ years using JK Rentals in our family , the past few years have been a totally different experience than we have been used to. All roads lead back to the gentleman at the office, who doesn’t seem to understand how to speak to his customers. Has been incredibly rude to my mother and other women in my family, but doesn’t seem to keep the same energy when speaking with the men… interesting… It’s a shame they have such a monopoly on the rental market. We’ll be going direct through owners from here on out."
"Yankee Magazine lists Ogunquit as the #1 beach town in New England, and we were lucky enough to stay at 18 School St. Location, location, location! The house is on a charming, quiet street, while right around the corner from great restaurants and shops. It's a pleasant walk to the beach, and the house was spacious and comfortable for our group, plus beautifully decorated. Early evenings were spent on the porch with an ocean view just beyond the buildings. Bonus cottage is the cutest thing I've ever seen, like a little fairy tale house. We can't wait to come back."
"Renters beware. We recently rented a condo at 249 Shore Rd in Ogunquit. I received an email telling me it was ok to check in without going to the rental office and to use the combo on the lockbox. We were told not to check in early because they needed the time to clean it. We walked into a 95 degree Unit!! It was unbearable. I called John, the realtor who said no one had been in there for some time and said he forgot to put the air on. We asked who we could speak to and he said he was in charge. We checked in Saturday at 3:00 and the place didn't start to cool down until Monday midday. I called him Sunday and his phone was shut off. He never called at all to see how it was going. We had to get a fan and keep it running the entire time. The coolest it got was 78 degrees in the condo the week of a heat wave. When we checked out the following Saturday I asked him if he was going to give us some kind of credit for the sweltering 2 days we had to deal with. He looked at us with a blank stare and said he contacted the home owner. I said why blame the homeowner? You said you forgot to put the air on. He said they were there the week before. Obviously forgot what he originally told us. We paid $200.00 for cleaning and left the place cleaner than we found it. I will never rent from this agency again."
