"Super nice trail. You should account for the sand when planning your timing. The marsh side was much softer and slowed me down vs the bay side. I took Marsh side to #4 and then crossed to the bay side. Weather was great and the beach was abandoned. You could extend the hike to the end of the point but it'll add an additional 4 miles onto the 7.8 that #4 cross over had. The dunes and Marsh were incredible. There was lots of rocks and seashells. The waves were good on the windy day I was there. The view was incredible on both sides. They have a seperate area for hikers that is free to park in. The shelters you can rent along the way have water and Porta potties near by. There are very old cape houses to view as you walk."
"We walked the trail to the lighthouse on the point. Walking sticks were helpful through approx 3 miles of hilly dunes (part of the trail). So much beauty in salt marsh and wooded areas. We saw and heard a wide variety of birds, diamond back turtle's and (sadly) the remains of a baby whale that apparently got lost in the marsh channels. Stunning views and stops along the way made for a great 8 hour adventure. Wear sunscreen and bring water. We loved this walk and slept well afterwards."
"If you’re looking for a sandy hike through dunes and marsh then this is the trail for you. It was an easy trail for me but the dunes and wind can increase it to a more moderate hike. It was windy and cooler today but the views were still gorgeous. It wasn’t crowded at all either."
"Horseflies and extreme heat on the marsh-side/dunes in the summer, but the landscape is quite fantastic and unique, on the beach side, the dune trails, and the marsh. But the horseflies are aggressive and plentiful, be prepared."
"Sandy Neck is my happy place! It's Nirvana! I love being able to have a campfire while camping on the beach!"
