Gilberts Chowder House

"Don't miss out on Gilbert's Chowder House! What a great little restaurant! Our family enjoyed dinner so much that we hope to stop back in before leaving the area. It is a no-frills restaurant with a small menu of fantastic items. The clam cake bites started off our dinner. It was a serving of 4 small cakes. They were a tasty fried little patty. We ordered a variety of items to try, but the Seafood Chowder was everyone's favorite. The lobster roll was a close second place. It was served on what appeared to be a thick Texas toast type bread. It was a hearty portion and one of the best lobster rolls we have had. The lobster grilled cheese was also enjoyed by all. It was served on a thick bread with lots of cheese and lobster. You can get it with potato chips, fries or onion rings. The chicken strips were served with a large basket of fries and 3 large strips. The Chowder Sampler was a special being served and it was small portions of each Chowder. They serve a great variety with a range of flavors, sure to please any pallet. Most everything was served on and with disposable dishes/utensils. There is public parking next to the restaurant that is around $8 an hour. We paid $17.95 for 2 hours."

"I can’t even explain how delicious the lobster chowder was. It was truly some of the best food that has ever landed on my taste buds. Probably my death row meal and well worth the price. The pics are of two different bites of the lobster chowder if you can believe it."

"Fantastic. The clam chowder was out of this world. Hands down the best! We also had haddock chowder. Awesome, but definitely a runner up to the clam. The lobster roll here was the freshest and most refreshing tasting lobster roll we’ve had here. Highly recommend. The staff was so helpful and friendly."

"Alright y'all. If you're in town, this place is a MUST TRY! I don't normally rate a place at 5 stars, but these guys nailed it. We came in last night for a quick bowl of their clam chowder. We met their two bartenders who were so very nice. Kasey was exceptionally nice. We got the food and headed back to the hotel. The chowder was very good. Large chunks of clam and the flavor was phenomenal. We came back in today and were greeted with smiles from Kasey who totally remembered us. She recommended the lobster stew, so we ordered a large ($21.95) to share. The stew itself is a thin soup that was velvety, buttery, and smooth. It was filled with large chunks of lobster meat. They didn't skimp out on it at all. We also ordered steamed mussels ($18.95) which came with garlic bread and a sauce for dipping made from the mussels and a hint of oregano. The final dish was the twin lobster special with rice and corn on the cob. The lobsters were cooked to perfection. They were tender and juicy and full of flavor. Kasey wished us well as we will be heading out to continue our vacation up the coast. Thank you guys (and our waitress Jen) for a great experience at your spot! 10/10 would recommend. 10/10 would be regular customers if we ever come back."
