"I stayed at the Century House this past weekend for a family event, and feel compelled to leave this review. When we arrived, we were relatively happy about our room. It seemed a little bare. When I went to take a shower however, I noticed that all of my towels smelled like cigarettes. I'm not really sure how that happened, but it was really gross and kind of set a bad tone for me. We went to a funeral, and brought some nice, expensive shoes with us to wear. The rest of our stay we didn't wear the shoes. We forgot the shoes in the room when we checked out. Our bad. That said, I called the hotel immediately upon realizing I'd left the shoes in the room. We told them exactly where we left the shoes, and they told us that they couldn't check the room because another guest was in it, but they'd let us know... We called back several times and there was ABSOLUTELY NO MOVEMENT from them. Totally stonewalled. They didn't check the room. They didn't reassure us at all. The shoes were expensive and of sentimental value, and we made that very clear. Given that it really felt like 0 consideration for customer service. Then finally, a full five days passed. They told us that the guest that had been in the room checked out and there were no shoes... Hotels are part of the hospitality service industry. Our family event had booked a large block of rooms at the hotel. I really felt like once they had my money in their pocket and I was checked out that they became very inconsiderate and kind of rude to me for asking what I thought was a very reasonable question. The second person I spoke to a few days after was a bit more reasonable and said they would leave a note for the person in the room. I appreciated this. Even if they didn't do it, it was a considerate thing to say. I just don't know what was up with the first receptionist I spoke with. Honestly it felt weird and kind of suspicious to me. It's kind of hard to convey, I guess. I don't usually leave reviews, and I wouldn't have even though the room was kind of gross. It's really just this totally weird customer service experience I had after leaving, where it genuinely felt like the receptionist would not budge an inch to reassure me or offer me basic decency, and instead just gaslit me, lol."
"Very nice hotel. The style is quaint, the building is old but well kept and beautiful, the rooms are comfortable. Front desk staff were polite and helpful. Internet and cable signals are high quality. Breakfast was definitely awesome, great selection of hot foods, cereals and fruits. Minus one star because: - there was no toilet paper in our room when we arrived, and - I discovered a used spoon behind the fridge. Also there are few wall outlets, so make sure you bring a power strip if you need to charge lots of electronics. If you like unique, historical places this is a lovely place to stay :)"
"Stayed here for three nights. First night, reported wet floor and room with an odor. Sorry, all full - no other room available. Ok, can we make a change for tomorrow. Nope. Came back after traveling NY and same room, same problem. Tonight, when we got back from sightseeing, same problem. We invited the manager to the room to walk on the wet floor like we have been. Nope. I took her a Kleenex stepped onto the wet floor. She finally was able to find us a different room. Dry floor, but still an odor. Food is OK. TV reception is split and fuzzy. Internet connection is lanky and slow; could not update photos online media."
"The staff is very friendly and helpful with good manners. We got all towels/items we needed very quickly. We stayed for one week. We get interrogated every time we were at the breakfast table whether we are guests even if she asked us the previous day. Our window had two large active bees nests, though on the outside. Our room had a line of water damage on the ceiling, as if the upstairs had a flood. Our air conditioner smelled very musty and moldy even after we cleaned the filters ourselves. We stayed with a baby, his hands and feet were BLACK from crawling on the floor. As mentioned, the hotel staff is very polite and helpful - they just don't have good standards for cleaning. For a place that is supposed to be classy and fancy, Red Roof, Motel 6 and Hampton Inn, in our experience, is much cleaner and cheaper."
"Stayed at the hotel most of last fall and ate Century House at least twice a week. Food is outstanding (love the lobster mac and cheese) and restaurant environment is very comfortable. Feels like a revolutionary era eating establishment. Highly recommend."
