"Very Disappointing Hop Brook Counseling Center has a policy of not seeing patients who are court ordered to seek mental health treatment. Guess that's Hop Brook Counseling Center's contribution to criminalizing the mentally ill. We the mentally ill all need to stand together in opposition to such a policy and Hop Brook Counseling and the continued crimilization of the mentally ill."
"I have had great experiences with the counselors that work for this company. It's entirely off the back of their competence and care that I'm giving a 3 star. They were always compassionate and understanding. The support services, and senior decision making, however, leave much to be desired. It took Hop Brook months to process my insurance claims. Finally, they sent me an invoice that was nearly $1,000. I asked during 3-4 sessions consecutively for a status on this. The lack of professionalism in this regard was almost impacting my care as I considered cutting back on sessions until they were finally processed. I think we all know how the uncertainty surrounding medical claims can induce anxiety. One thing that someone seeking counseling should not have to deal with is more anxiety about finances due to an unreliable billing department. Which leads me to my next complaint. I sought an evaluation for ADHD that, due to Hop Brook policy, I ultimately decided not to pursue. It was admittedly poor decision making on my part to schedule the evaluation during my second week at a new job. However, I take my mental health seriously, so I didn't want to postpone the opportunity. I also understand that it can be difficult to get these kinds of appointments. I eventually needed to reschedule the evaluation, and notified Hop Brook of this 24 hours in advance as their policy requires. I was informed that I would have one remaining opportunity to be evaluated at the practice. I completely understand shielding the business from customers who are habitually late, frequently cancel, or are otherwise unreliable. That being said, I attended many weeks worth of appointments and missed one virtual appointment in that time. I was also late to one in-person appointment due to unsafe weather conditions. But otherwise, I attended as agreed. This policy of one chance to reschedule concerns me. How many customers would have attended if they were recently exposed to someone with COVID because they did not want to be forced from the practice? Doesn't having such a restrictive policy seem out of place if the primary objective is to provide quality care? This was an ADHD evaluation after all. Finally, month after month of failing to follow through on processing claims, but the expectation of people seeking evaluation for ADHD is that they have one lifetime opportunity to reschedule without any consideration for the circumstances? I simply didn't feel comfortable putting myself in the position of "If my daughter gets sick, do I have to now find another practice? If my car breaks down do I find another practice?" etc. So I'm going to another practice. I understand there is a high demand for counseling services and not enough providers. I understand that there are some people who are unreliable and that it's to the detriment of others who could have attended the appointment that you missed or rescheduled. Even with all of the consequences of missing appointments. Sometimes, even to the best of us, it will happen. I just think that offering people a 2nd chance to reschedule is a step toward providing a higher quality of care."
