ADL - Otago
About the Business
Welcome to ADL - Otago, a not-for-profit youth services provider located in Dunedin, New Zealand. We are dedicated to working with young people and their families across the lower South Island to promote health and well-being.
At ADL, we offer a range of services to support young people. Whether you prefer face-to-face meetings, online video sessions, or phone consultations, we can accommodate your needs. Our team can meet you at one of our service delivery sites, your school, in the community, or even in the comfort of your own home. We have offices in Dunedin, Timaru, Cromwell, and Invercargill, and our mobile staff can reach rural and remote areas.
The best part is, all our services are completely free for clients and their families. We believe that everyone deserves access to the support they need, regardless of their financial situation.
ADL - Rarangahia Ngā Ara Ora, meaning "weaving pathways of wellbeing," is at the heart of what we do. We prioritize a client-centered approach, working closely with young people and their families to define their own definitions of wellness and develop unique pathways to well-being.
We are strong advocates for the Five Ways to Wellbeing, a set of simple actions that can be incorporated into your daily life to improve resilience, boost well-being, and reduce the risk of mental health problems. If you're between the ages of 12-24 and want to learn more about these five ways, including resources and activities, visit our Wellbeing eCoach page.
Thrive is our free professional counseling service specifically designed for young people aged 12 to 24 and their families in the lower South Island. With a safe, non-judgmental, and confidential approach, we offer one to six sessions of coaching, talking, and problem-solving to help you navigate life's challenges. Our focus is on building skills to manage mental health difficulties and substance use, empowering you to bounce back more easily in the future.
For those seeking more intensive support, Adventure Development Counselling (ADC) is available. This longer-term program is tailored to young people aged 13-19 who require additional help with mental health or alcohol and drug concerns. ADC utilizes activity and outdoor experiences to develop new skills for better management during difficult times. Participants can expect counseling sessions, day activities, and potentially even a 4-9 day outdoor journey. We also offer marae-based journeys to support cultural identity.
At ADL, we are proud to support diversity in all its forms, embracing the unique backgrounds and experiences of our young people, their families, and communities.
Our services are funded by Te Whatu Ora, Health New Zealand, MSD, and other New Zealand government agencies. With this support, we are able to continue providing vital resources and assistance to the youth of the lower South Island.
