Tamatea Kindergarten

Welcome to Tamatea Kindergarten, located at Norfolk Street, Napier, New Zealand. We are an establishment that aims to cultivate confident explorers, keen inquirers, creative thinkers, active learners, and sharers of knowledge. Our learning environment is designed to nurture, empower, promote, and foster independence, social relationships, and life skills, ultimately creating resilience and a sense of social responsibility.

At Tamatea Kindergarten, we offer two session times for your convenience. From Monday to Friday, we have sessions from 8:30am to 12:00pm, as well as extended sessions from 8:30am to 2:30pm. This allows parents to choose the time that best suits their schedule.

Our staff to child ratio is 1 teacher to 10 children, with additional non-teaching support to ensure the highest quality of care and attention for each child. We believe in maintaining positive relationships with our students and their families, which is reflected in our service's philosophy of an explorative learning culture.

We recently revisited our kindergarten's philosophy and are now focusing on aligning our teaching practices and environment with the principles of Te Whāriki. This ensures that children learn in a setting that supports meaningful and enjoyable exploration. Through free, uninterrupted play and investigation, we encourage independence and extend their learning. We also incorporate emerging interests in literacy and numeracy within the context of play, both indoors and outdoors.
