"Disgusting, dirty place with staff that just don’t care. Don’t stay here it is honestly the grossest/filthiest place you’ll ever stay."
"Patently all these reviews are making little to no difference in the quality of the business. The fact they have the reception closed until 3.30 and there is a refusal to hold any hospitality to the customer is quite frankly a joke. There is confusion about leaving a key deposit as the reception isnt open and after calling the owners, they have made it difficult to come back to the hostel to give us OUR money back. Cold showers, constant threats of fines and charging for toilet roll are just a few things that have led to this being one of the worst hostel experiences we have had. There is a reason why they say no refunds after payement. Please pay for somewhere else. This place deserves to go out of business."
"Unfortunately we didnt read the reviews... Thankfully we arrived early evening. On first entering the premises, we noticed how cold and damp the reception area was, which wasnt that welcoming on a cold Dunedin day! The receptionist was cheerful and helpful, and advised us that the shower on 2nd floor didnt have any hot water so we had to use shower on 1st floor. That was fine. We made our way upto our room on 2nd floor, the hallways were poorly lit and freezing cold and down our corridor there was no lighting at all, once we found the light switch we were able to find our room. On entering room, it was cold and damp, with mouldy ceilings which had been poorly covered over with paint. Cracks in ceiling and walls, stains on carpets and sheets, no emergency information on how to exit building in an event of fire. We immediately put heater on and and i went in search of the 1st floor shower. After walking through more poorly lit corridors i eventually found the womens shower block which was clean and tidy. At this stage looking forward to a nice hot shower, only to be disappointed with enough hot water for a 30 sec shower. Cold and shivering i rushed back upstairs to our room to warm up. Only to be disappointed again with how poorly the heater had heated the room. Went for dinner and arrived back late evening to a cold room once again. Turns out Heater only goes for an hour at a time. Freezing cold the 3 of us hopped into one double bed fully clothed to keep warm as the bedding was completely inadequate for cold Dunedin nights. One sheet and one very thin duvet. We slept well. It was quiet. But woke to a freezing room, so huddled around the heater to keep warm. We didnt bother with showering. This could actually be quite a cool hostel with better management. Clearly the owners are just out to make a quick buck and arent really bothered with what customers experience. Id say they are probably being propped up by winz as extra emergency housing so couldnt really give a monkies!! We are well travelled kiwis who live in central otago so pretty hardy but felt that it wasnt value for money!! Id advise just staying one night, bring extra blankets and your own heater in winter!!"
"Where do you start first receptionist was very unhelpful handed us key and continued watching her laptop Eating had to ask how to get to our room. Wifi is horrible. Our bedroom lock is being held on the door by duct tape. The showers on this floor are only cold water so have to go to another area then there is a clear window no curtain looking directly at a house so getting undressed and dressed was a mission. Hand soap in bathrooms is dishwashing liquid. A no eating and drinking in rooms policy is silly. Would never recommend this place. But guess you get what you pay for"
"Extremely run down, terrible service. Owners are there to make money - not to make your stay comfortable. Bathrooms have broken ammenities, general condition is rough, there is no parking, blankets and pillows are minimal. We paid $295 for a room - they tried to give us one off the main house that we were unable to lock and where access to a bathroom was 100m away - a walk across the carpark through the keypad door etc. Imagine needing a wee in the middle of the night! DO NOT RECOMMEND."
