Welcome to New Brighton Community PreSchool & Nursery Inc, located in Christchurch, New Zealand. Our institution is a point of interest and establishment that provides high-quality education and care for children from early childhood to their primary education years.

With a history spanning 40 years, our innovative and child-directed learning center has established a strong connection within our seaside community. We are dedicated to nurturing not only the development of our children but also our environment. We believe that early childhood education plays a vital role in shaping resilient future adults.

At New Brighton Community PreSchool & Nursery, we prioritize the education, wellbeing, and care of our tamariki (children). We firmly believe that learning should be fun and take place in a play-based environment. We see a positive attitude toward learning as the foundation for unlocking great potential. Through trustful relationships, our tamariki can face and overcome challenges, embrace opportunities, and value their own capabilities.

We take great pride in embracing multiculturalism, diversity, and inclusion within our preschool and nursery. Many of our tamariki come from different parts of the world, and we encourage them and their whānau (family) to share their languages and cultures with everyone. This helps create awareness and appreciation for different cultures in our global society.

Our center is guided by core values rooted in New Zealand's unique Māori culture. This allows us to integrate our indigenous language and create a thoughtfully prepared learning environment for our tamariki.

Our core values shape the actions we take and the decisions we make. We prioritize nurturing and strengthening relationships, actively engaging in respectful partnerships with whānau and our community. We aim to create a sense of belonging, recognize and celebrate diversity, and find acceptance among our community members. We strive to understand the needs, expectations, and aspirations of each whānau and be responsive to them.

Service is at the heart of what we do. We show care, respect, hospitality, integrity, and sincerity in all our interactions. We acknowledge that each tamariki is an integral part of a whānau, bringing their own culture, language, and identity, along with their knowledge and experiences of the world.

We are a community of learners, continuously learning together and from each other. Our kaiako (teachers) engage with tamariki's interests, providing open-ended and thought-provoking experiences that challenge and empower them to succeed. We have high expectations for our learners and believe that when kaiako are present, enthusiastic, and willing, tamariki become active participants in a curriculum focused on learning.

We are committed to purposefully caring for our people, resources, and places, instilling a desire to care for them in the future. Our kaiako support tamariki in engaging respectfully with and showing aroha (love) for Papatūānuku (Mother Earth). We encourage an understanding of kaitiakitanga (guardianship) and the responsibilities of being a kaitiaki (guardian) by caring for our center and local community. We appreciate our connection to this community, with its beautiful beach and natural environment, as part of the greater Christchurch and wider history and partnerships of Aotearoa.
