At the Burwood Academy, we are dedicated to delivering research excellence and outcomes that positively impact the lives of individuals living with disabilities. We firmly believe that research plays a crucial role in addressing societal challenges and finding solutions. Our team conducts consumer-based disability and rehabilitation research, with a strong emphasis on translating our findings into actionable outcomes that truly matter.

Education is also at the heart of what we do. We provide educational excellence to researchers, clinicians, tertiary students, and individuals living with disabilities. One of our notable initiatives is the BAIL Scholarship, which offers Masters and PhD students the opportunity to gain competence in Independent Living (IL). Through regular presentations, we offer a wide range of opportunities for further development of knowledge and understanding of Independent Living (IL), as well as the chance to connect with others in the sector.

At the Burwood Academy, we prioritize knowledge translation research in all aspects of our work. This means that we strive to bridge the gap between research findings and practical implementation, ensuring that our research reaches the hands of individuals and organizations who can utilize it effectively. By doing so, we aim to reduce the current 18-year gap between research findings and common practice.

We are excited to announce the appointment of our new General Manager, who will play a crucial role in leading our organization and driving our mission forward.

Additionally, we are proud to highlight the research efforts of our esteemed Dr. Johnny Bourke, who has been named the Inaugural CMRF Emerging Researcher Fellow. This recognition reflects our commitment to fostering talent and supporting emerging researchers in the field of rehabilitation.
