Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Waitaha
About the Business
Welcome to Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Waitaha, a unique and vibrant educational institution located in the heart of Christchurch, New Zealand. Our school, situated on Hassals Lane, is a renowned establishment that celebrates and promotes Māori language and culture.
Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Waitaha, also known as TKKM o Waitaha, is an Aho Matua Te Kura Kaupapa Māori, Composite Area School. This means that we cater to students from various age groups, ranging from early childhood education to secondary education. Our kura prides itself on providing a holistic and culturally immersive learning environment for our tamariki (children).
Established in 1987, our school has a rich history and has been dedicated to nurturing the Māori language, customs, and traditions. In 1992, we officially became a kura kaupapa Māori, solidifying our commitment to Māori language immersion education.
At TKKM o Waitaha, we have a team of dedicated and passionate pouako (teachers) who are committed to providing high-quality education to our ākonga (students). Our curriculum is centered around te reo Māori (Māori language), tikanga Māori (Māori customs), and Mātauranga Māori (Māori knowledge). We believe in empowering our students to embrace their cultural identity while also equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the modern world.
As a whānau (family), we come together in unity and support, fostering a sense of belonging and pride within our school community. We encourage active whakawhanaungatanga (relationship-building) and provide a range of cultural events, hui (meetings), and activities for our students and their whānau to participate in.
Located in the suburb of Opawa, in the beautiful city of Christchurch - Otautahi, our school enjoys a serene and picturesque setting. Surrounded by natural beauty, we believe in the importance of connecting our students with the whenua (land) and the environment, instilling a deep respect and appreciation for our surroundings.
We invite you to explore our website and learn more about Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Waitaha. Whether you are a prospective student, whānau member, or simply interested in Māori language immersion education, we welcome you to join us on this journey of cultural enrichment and educational excellence.
