At Papakura Intermediate School, we believe that this stage of life is a critical time for students to apply and test the values and understandings they have developed in their early years. This is when they begin to think critically about a wider range of ideas and grow in confidence, taking on challenges with more responsibility. It is a time when their immense potential is unleashed at a rapid rate.

Our school takes pride in offering a wide-ranging curriculum that caters to the growth and development of 11 to 13-year-olds. We understand the importance of allowing our students to specialize in areas of interest or talent, while also ensuring they are ready for the future, both in high school and beyond. With specialist teachers, specialist spaces, and specialist resources, we are committed to providing the best possible education for our students.

In 2020, Papakura Intermediate School is home to a driven Board of Trustees, a visionary leadership team, and a dynamic #TeamPI staff. We have over 200 self-determining learners and over 800 innovative learners who engage in our specialist technology program. Our curriculum focuses on inquiry-mindedness, authentic real-life application of learning, and the development of 21st-century skills, dispositions, and competencies. Our innovative approach has even been recognized by lead New Zealand Curriculum author Mary Anne Mills, who commended our cutting-edge practices.

We strongly believe that everyone has the potential to be a leader in life, regardless of their chosen path. That is why we emphasize the development of leadership capability, motivation, and skills in all of our learners, including both students and adults. We have seen our learners take the lead in various projects, such as designing and prototyping New Zealand's first astronomical playground, receiving compost for our maara kai (food garden), and engaging in professional development opportunities.
