Welcome to Kidsfirst Kindergartens Mathers Road, located in Christchurch, New Zealand. Our kindergarten is nestled in a picturesque, park-like setting, surrounded by towering trees and lush gardens. For over 40 years, we have been dedicated to teaching and learning alongside children aged 2 to 5 years in the Hoon Hay community.

Step inside our kindergarten and you'll be greeted by an open, light, and bright environment. Carefully curated resources are available to inspire thinking and exploration, allowing learning to happen at each child's own pace. We believe in supporting the mana, wairua, and mauri (spirit, soul, and life force) that our tamariki (children) bring with them. Our tamariki are encouraged to be mindful and in awe of the world around them, as well as respectful of the environment in which they play and learn.

Outside, our beautiful backyard offers ample space for children to explore and develop their physical skills. Moveable equipment allows them to set their own challenges, while a large grassed area surrounded by majestic trees provides shelter in all weather conditions. We also have peaceful and quiet areas for moments of calm and reflection.

Our qualified and experienced teaching team at Kidsfirst Kindergartens Mathers Road implements a program with a special focus on fostering positive relationships among children. We believe in the importance of play for learning and development, providing uninterrupted time and space for our tamariki to grow and learn. Knowledge is seen as a process, a discovery, and a building of understanding.

We highly value face-to-face conversations and embrace the language and culture of our families. We have strong connections with local primary schools, ensuring a smooth transition to school for your child as they move on from Kindergarten.

We recommend enrolling your child for at least two full days initially, gradually building up to five days at their own pace. This allows our teachers to get to know your child and provides consistency in supporting their learning.
