Welcome to Kidsfirst Kindergartens Hoon Hay, located at 60 Rowley Avenue in Christchurch, New Zealand. Our kindergarten is nestled down a long driveway right next to Rowley Primary School, making it a convenient and accessible location for families in our unique neighborhood.

At Kidsfirst Hoon Hay, we are proud to offer a program for children aged 2 – 5 years old that focuses on fostering a strong sense of belonging. We encourage children to show Manaakitanga, which means caring for each other, and Kaitiakitanga, which means caring for our environment. Our goal is to empower children to be self-directing, allowing them to create their own challenges and providing the support they need to achieve them.

One of the unique aspects of our kindergarten is our strong Pasifika presence. We integrate language and culture into our daily program to celebrate and honor the diversity of our community. This creates a rich and inclusive environment for all children to learn and grow.

Inside our kindergarten, you will find an open, expansive, and inspiring learning environment. Children engage in challenging and physically active play, as well as a variety of creative and sensory experiences. They have the freedom to explore, connect with their peers, and make choices that engage them with their surroundings. Our inclusive program encourages risk-taking and supports the emergent interests of each child.

Outside, our beautifully designed backyard offers adventure and quiet spaces for children to play. With mature trees, native shrubs, and plants providing natural shade, our outdoor area is a haven for exploration. We have an edible garden that is lovingly tended by our children and families, providing fresh produce that we use in our kindergarten and share with families.

At Kidsfirst Hoon Hay, we believe in supporting every child's learning journey. We build on their interests, skills, and abilities, and recognize that every person in our community is both a teacher and a learner. We value the relationships we build with our families and embrace the multiculturalism and diversity that they bring to our program.

Community and connectedness are at the heart of what we do. We actively engage with our wider community, helping our children make connections and understand their place in the world. We have strong links with local primary schools, ensuring a smooth transition for children moving on from kindergarten.

We recommend enrolling your child for at least two full days initially, gradually increasing to five days at their own pace. This allows our teachers to get to know your child and provides consistency in supporting their learning.

We welcome you to visit our kindergarten at any time. Come in, and we will show you around and make you feel welcome. Keep an eye out for our special offers, as we occasionally provide opportunities for more children to join our not-for-profit, community kindergarten. However, spaces are limited, and these offers only apply for a limited time.
