About the Business
Welcome to the Foundation for Arable Research (FAR) - Lincoln Research Site, located in Christchurch, Springs Road, New Zealand. As an establishment and point of interest, FAR is dedicated to supporting New Zealand's arable farmers by generating new knowledge, tools, and technologies to promote responsible and profitable farming practices.
FAR collaborates with government-funded organizations and universities to fund research programs that align with the interests of New Zealand growers. We also use levy funds to secure additional government funding through initiatives like the Sustainable Food Fibre Futures Fund.
Our Environmental and Social Best Practice Strategy guides our research, development, and extension activities, ensuring the protection of essential resources and the longevity of the sector.
Arable farmers play a crucial role in the primary sector, contributing $2.1 billion to the New Zealand economy through the production of grain, seed, and other crops. To support their efforts, FAR offers ProductionWise, developed by Regrow Ag, which provides crop record-keeping and support tools to enhance efficiency, sustainability, and profitability in modern farming enterprises.
FAR's research and extension portfolio encompasses various areas, including field-based crop agronomy trials, international collaborations, and the exploration of future crops. This portfolio is regularly updated to adapt to emerging research needs, such as biosecurity incursions or regional issues. We publish results throughout the year via various mediums, including hard copy and electronic formats, and prepare Annual Research Reports.
