Kidsfirst Kindergartens Burnham

Welcome to Kidsfirst Kindergartens Burnham, a unique establishment nestled amongst native trees and bushes in Burnham, New Zealand. Located just a short drive south from central Rolleston and right next to Burnham Military Camp, our kindergarten is easily accessible. Look for our flags and behind our fence, you will find a vibrant and happy environment where children aged 2-5 years old can enjoy our large and leafy outdoor space.

At Kidsfirst Burnham, we believe in giving children the freedom to explore, connect with others, and learn through play, regardless of the season or weather conditions. As you walk around, you will see children engaged in various activities, making choices that connect them with their environment and community. We encourage our tamariki to be mindful and inspired by the world around them and to respect the environment they play and learn in.

Our expansive backyard provides strong connections to nature, with large established trees and shrubs, as well as a special "forest-bush" area for children to explore. We encourage children to take safe and calculated risks, allowing them to discover their own learning potential. Our open indoor/outdoor environment seamlessly blends together, providing a space for children to explore the world around them and make exciting discoveries along the way.

At Kidsfirst Burnham, we support children in taking the lead in their own learning journey through innovation, inquiry, and hands-on learning experiences. Children aged 2-5 years have access to a range of resources that ignite their thinking and exploration. Learning occurs at each child's pace, acknowledging the unique qualities they bring to our kindergarten.

Family and whānau are always welcome at Kidsfirst Burnham. We believe that family connection (whanaungatanga) is vital, and we encourage families to spend time in our kindergarten, meeting new friends, and sharing their skills and interests to extend their child's learning. We have wonderful support from our kindergarten whānau for kindy events and fundraising.

You will often see us out and about in Burnham and beyond, as we explore our community and take on the role of caretakers (kaitiaki) of our environment. We are fortunate to be close to the military camp, farming communities, and the Rolleston township. Strong links with Selwyn primary schools help support a smooth transition to school for both you and your child.

We recommend enrolling your child for at least two full days initially, gradually building up to five days at their own pace. This allows our teachers to get to know your child and provides consistency in supporting their learning.
