Southern Cross Language Institute

Welcome to Southern Cross Language Institute, located at 55 Papanui Road, Christchurch, New Zealand. Established in 1987, in collaboration with the esteemed St Catalina Gakuen schools in Japan, our institute offers an intensive one-year English course for both their students and independent learners.

Over the years, Southern Cross Language Institute has proudly graduated more than 1000 female students. We take immense pride in the success of our graduates and are thrilled to have recently welcomed back Ayaka Ando, a graduate from 2014. Just yesterday, we had the pleasure of catching up with Sayaka Okubo, another graduate from the same year.

Last week, our students enjoyed a visit to Ferrymead, where they experienced a hands-on education program. The staff at Ferrymead truly brought history to life, taking on roles as teachers, store owners, and even the lady of the house. It was a delightful day made even better by the comfortable weather.

We hope that everyone has been coping well with the recent hot weather, especially as we settle back into the school routine. Our classrooms are equipped with heat pumps and air conditioners, installed about a year ago, to ensure a comfortable learning environment. Although students often prefer a slightly warmer temperature than the rest of us, we strive to maintain a pleasant atmosphere for all.

At our recent meeting, we discussed the ongoing Coronavirus outbreak and emphasized the importance of hand washing and staying home when unwell. We also addressed the concerns of students falling ill on exam days and reassured them that appropriate measures will be taken to ensure fairness.

First and foremost, we would like to wish everyone a happy new year. We would also like to express our gratitude to the families who took their host daughters on incredible holidays during the break. We have hit the ground running this year, with Test 5 approaching in the next few weeks, followed shortly after by final exams. We are confident in our students' abilities and look forward to celebrating their achievements.
