Kimihia Parents' College
About the Business
Welcome to Kimihia Parents' College, located in Christchurch, New Zealand. As an establishment and point of interest, we are dedicated to providing a unique educational experience for young parents. Hosted by Linwood College, our college was established in 2006 to cater to the specific needs of teen parents.
With a maximum roll of 30 students, we accept individuals up to 18 years old, but they must leave by their 20th year. Our institution is proud to have a purpose-built childcare unit on-site, staffed by qualified Early Childhood Education (ECE) teachers from the Kimihia Early Learning Trust. This allows our students to focus on their studies while ensuring their children receive quality care. Meals are provided, and students have the freedom to visit their children at any time.
At Kimihia Parents' College, we offer a comprehensive curriculum that includes NCEA Level 1 to 3 courses, as well as a transition to university program using STAR/UC. Through this program, students have the opportunity to study distance papers at the prestigious University of Canterbury, without the need for University Entrance (UE) qualifications.
Our students are driven by a desire for a better life for themselves and their children. They possess great potential and motivation, and it is our responsibility to support them in achieving their goals. In addition to traditional classroom-based learning, our college also provides university papers, and we are currently in the process of setting up online learning using Chrome Books.
At Level 1, students study a range of compulsory subjects including English, Maths, Science, Home Economics, Computing, and Life Skills. Level 2 and 3 students have the option to study subjects such as Plunket, Biology, Business Studies, Media, and more, either in classes with teachers or through Te Kura, an online learning platform.
Our experienced staff consists of three dedicated teachers. James Abbott, one of our founding teachers, teaches various subjects across different levels, including Maths, Science, Home Economics, and Biology. Bianca Nielsen has been with us for many years, starting part-time and now working full-time. She teaches English, Media, Life Skills, and Plunket.
At Kimihia Parents' College, we aim to create a supportive community for young women who share the common goal of completing their secondary education and planning for their future and the future of their children. We understand that being a teen parent comes with unique challenges, and we are here to provide the necessary resources and guidance to ensure our students' success.
In addition to our educational programs, we also offer a range of support services. Many of our Teen Parent Units have nearby early childhood centers that provide childcare for the children of our teen parent students.
Thank you for visiting our website, designed and developed by Ed Technical, with the website build done by sitetools. We look forward to welcoming you to Kimihia Parents' College and supporting you on your educational journey.
