Welcome to St Margaret's College Preschool, a nurturing and inclusive institution located in Christchurch, New Zealand. Our dedicated team of qualified pre-school teachers work closely with families to create a caring and supportive environment for girls and boys, enabling them to thrive.

At St Margaret's College Preschool, we believe in empowering our young students to develop inquiring minds and a love for learning as they embark on their educational journey. We follow Te Whāriki, New Zealand's Early Childhood Curriculum, and are committed to upholding Te Tiriti o Waitangi, the Treaty of Waitangi. We value strong relationships, collaboration, and the Anglican values that our school is founded upon.

Our teaching staff takes the time to understand each child's prior knowledge and experiences, while also embracing the spontaneous and curious nature of children. We integrate inquiry-based learning into various curriculum areas, including numeracy, literacy, art, and music.

In addition to academic subjects, our programs also focus on developing an understanding of the cultural heritage of both parties to Te Tiriti, as well as learning about tikanga (custom) and Te Reo Māori (language). We offer specialist classes such as science exploration, baking, and yoga, which not only expand children's horizons but also enhance their social and motor skills.

For our older Pre-School students, we have a Transition to School Programme designed by our qualified primary school teacher. This program boosts their confidence and prepares them for the next step in their education. It includes activities that extend literacy and numeracy concepts, games, and a look at school routines. This complements any visits they may have from the school they will later attend.

St Margaret's College Preschool shares its grounds with our Junior, Middle, and Senior Schools, providing access to a wide range of resources that support our students' social, emotional, intellectual, physical, and spiritual development. Our children enjoy spending time in the library, dance studio, and sports facilities.

To ensure the well-being of our students, our catering department provides nutritious lunch and morning and afternoon tea. Our menu is carefully developed to meet the specific nutritional needs of young children.

We are open throughout the year from 7.30am to 5.30pm, with the exception of a three-week Christmas holiday period. Additionally, we offer an optional holiday program for families who require care during the holidays.
