Kate Ferris, our registered psychologist and mediator, is passionate about partnering with her clients to find sustainable solutions to a wide range of concerns. With a Masters in Science with first-class honours from Massey University and a Post Graduate Diploma in the Professional Practice of Psychology from Waikato University, Kate is highly qualified and continually engages in professional development to provide the best service to her community.

As a mediator, Kate offers structured and facilitated discussions to help parties resolve disputes or problems. Her mediation services cover interpersonal disagreements in various settings, such as family, workplace, and community. These short and focused sessions utilize leading-edge methodology and aim to open up channels of communication, preserve relationships, and consider a greater variety of solutions. Kate creates a safe and confidential space for parties to express themselves effectively, listen to each other, and collaborate on finding resolutions.

Kate specializes in working with couples in conflict and families in transition, including those going through separation. She possesses a deep understanding of child development, family systems, and communication skills. With specialist training in child inclusive practices and high conflict dynamics, Kate is well-equipped to assist in these sensitive situations.

At Kate Ferris Psychology, our practice is collaborative, empathetic, and evidence-based. We employ an integrative approach that incorporates various therapeutic modalities such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), mindfulness, Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and creative and somatic modalities. Depending on your goals and concerns, educational and coaching practices may also be utilized.

Working together, you will develop the insight and skills necessary to manage and overcome the challenges you are facing. Kate provides sincere listening and support, helping you cultivate greater self-awareness, self-compassion, and targeted change.

In addition to her work with children, youth, and adults in a clinical setting, Kate has advanced training in community psychology. She is available for consultation with organizations on community development projects, including planning, delivery, and evaluation, as well as policy development. Kate's practice is rooted in principles such as social justice, cultural safety, and empowerment/capacity-building, driving positive social change.
