Welcome to Pohlen Hospital, a private 33-bed charitable trust hospital located in Matamata, New Zealand. Our institution is dedicated to providing exceptional healthcare services to our patients and their families.

Pohlen Hospital holds a significant place in the community, as the land and capital for the buildings were generously donated by Joseph Pohlen. With a donation of 180,000 pounds, Joseph Pohlen's contribution helped establish this district general hospital, and we proudly bear his name.

While Pohlen Hospital operates independently, it is governed by a Board of Trustees that represents the community's interests. We have also secured key contracts with Te Whatu Ora, enabling us to offer specialized care in various areas such as Maternity, Primary (GP Beds), Aged Care, Transitional, Palliative and End of Life, Respite, and Carer Support. Patients receiving care under these contracts can often receive treatment free of charge.

Our accommodation options include single rooms with ensuites and shared rooms, all of which provide outdoor access. For expectant mothers, we have four maternity rooms and two delivery suites.
