"I am so relieved that my son has transferred from St Thomas, after prolonged bullying, and nothing ever being done about it. The staff made a lot of promises, but never carried through on them , the school didn't want to acknowledge they had a problem with bullying and continuously 'swept it under the carpet' , when I finally made the decision to withdraw him, there was no acknowledgement of him leaving and no support with getting credits transferred etc, one teacher in particular was so rude to me, he belittled me and hung up on me, rather than helping me. Very disappointed."
"this school is illiterate and has very low pass rates for NCEA. along with that the teachers ignore bullying situations. they also ignore the drug and vaping problem in the school. i have left this school because of this, the school is not safe and i have not learned that much at this school"
"Although most of the Teachers are great at their jobs Majority of the school doesn't have a good discipline system. most of the time the school lets some boys do obvious things that would get boys expelled from most schools and yet they just tell them to do better and nothing changes. the school rarely works on bettering their students. When I go to the school I feel a little insecure and hate having to get up in the morning on a Monday knowing I have to do 5 days of this school. However most of the staff are very supportive and kind especially their science teachers. I believe that school can be better if only they would just Focus on bettering boys and not pour their entire budget on making a team that can throw or kick a ball."
"Have nephews+son currently student here ATM- seems a good school"
"If your kids are rugby-playing conformists they will be sweet here. If they have alternative ways of learning they'll struggle with the school's conservative minded management. The best, wisest teachers seem to be pushed out in favor of young inexperienced staff. The structure of the school does not prepare students for further education, though that may be down to the education system. Just send your kids to Hagley"
