Birchville Kindergarten

Welcome to Birchville Kindergarten, located at 12 Amber Grove in Upper Hutt, New Zealand. As an establishment and point of interest, we are proud to offer a nurturing and supportive learning environment for children.

At Birchville Kindergarten, we believe in starting with the interests of our children as the foundation for their learning. Our philosophy focuses on providing a natural environment that is constantly evolving. We encourage exploration and discovery, allowing children to try new things at their own pace and in their own way. In fact, we even have a special bush program called "nga tamariki ngahere" for our oldest children, where they can further extend their learning on a weekly basis.

Building strong relationships with our children and their families is a priority for us. We aim to support children in gaining confidence and developing a "can do" attitude over time. Our team ethos is simple - if you go home clean, you haven't had a good day! We foster a sense of family and community, where everyone supports each other regardless of age. All are welcome at Birchville Kindergarten.

Our well-resourced environment allows children to freely follow their interests. We provide opportunities for developing physical and fine motor skills, as well as literacy and numeracy skills. Children can experiment with various materials such as paint, clay, inks, and dyes. We also offer a wide range of artistic activities including ephemeral art, collage, carpentry, stone carving, puppetry, music, dance, imaginary play, and drama.

Supporting the development of social competencies and building children's confidence and competence is at the core of everything we do. Our bush program for the oldest children encourages collaboration, responsibility, leadership skills, and independence. In this program, the environment becomes the teacher and children determine their own learning. Additionally, our oldest children have the opportunity to visit the library bus fortnightly and regularly visit Birchville School's library.

We understand the importance of a positive transition to primary school for children's ongoing learning. That's why we provide support to children and their families throughout this process.
