Olive Shoots Early Childhood Centre

Welcome to Olive Shoots Early Childhood Centre, located at 80 Central Park Drive, Auckland, New Zealand. Our establishment is a point of interest that aims to create a learning space of excellence where children, their families, and teachers can belong, believe, discover, and grow.

Situated on the campus of Laidlaw College, Henderson, our purpose-built centre provides care and education for the children of students undertaking courses at Laidlaw College, as well as the children of staff and the wider community. With excellent ratios and an educational curriculum that reflects our special character, we strive to provide the best possible care and education for every child.

At Olive Shoots, we believe in creating a safe, inviting, and inclusive environment. We understand that family, the centre, and the wider community all play a vital role in a child's growth and development. We recognize that the intellectual, emotional, social, physical, and spiritual aspects of our lives are interconnected and influenced by each other.

As an institution, we are committed to integrating our Christian values and principles with Te Whaariki, New Zealand's Early Childhood Curriculum. We also aim to grow in our understanding and commitment to the Treaty of Waitangi. With this foundation, we provide a curriculum that is primarily child-initiated, developmentally appropriate, and based on play.

We believe in the concept of ako, where the teacher and child are seen as co-learners in the teaching and learning relationship. Our teachers regularly engage in professional development to stay informed by current research and engage in ongoing self-review.

We value the involvement of families and whanau in a child's life, and our teachers work in respectful partnership with them to ensure positive outcomes for their children. Families and whanau are encouraged to participate in our program.

At Olive Shoots, we plan for children's individual learning pathways and interests by providing a variety of experiences using a range of teaching strategies. Our well-resourced, stimulating, and challenging learning environment encourages children's interests and strengths to be supported and developed. We empower children to make choices, gain confidence, build strong reciprocal relationships, and become confident and competent learners. Through their relationships with teachers and as they explore their environment, children gain an understanding of God's love, His awesome creation, the Bible, and how special they are to Him.
