We are particularly passionate about the learning opportunities provided in our mixed-aged group environment. Younger children benefit from the guidance and support of their more knowledgeable peers, who serve as role models and help extend their learning. In turn, older children develop leadership skills and a sense of responsibility as they teach and look out for others.

We understand that language is the foundation for reading and writing. Through the words children know and use, they are able to think, have ideas, and make sense of the world around them. Central to our success in promoting literacy is the oral sharing of stories, where children learn that their ideas and thoughts are valued and of interest to others. This structured experience fosters a range of learning dispositions that enrich children's development in various areas.

While children learn through their own interests and play, we believe it is our role as educators to introduce them to new experiences and ideas. A day at Childspace strikes the perfect balance between teacher-planned activities that are playful and engaging, and child-led play, exploration, and inquiry. Our emergent curriculum is shaped by the daily interests of our children, and our skilled teachers are adept at recognizing and responding to teachable moments.

Established in 1988, Childspace is the realization of a vision to provide children with an environment that fosters holistic development of the highest calibre. Our goal is for every child who leaves Childspace to do so with a sense of empowerment and self-confidence, a love of learning, and a genuine appreciation for reciprocal love and respect.

Our programme at Childspace is mindfully planned, passionately delivered, and skillfully evaluated in accordance with the early childhood curriculum, Te Whaariki. While we draw inspiration from a diverse range of developmental theories and practices, we do not characterize ourselves as strictly adhering to any one approach, such as Reggio Emilia or Montessori. Instead, we contextualize our curriculum to meet the needs of our community and learners.

We believe that play and learning must take place in an environment that fosters deep trust, acceptance, and respect for oneself and others.
