Unitec Te Pūkenga Waitākere Campus
About the Business
Welcome to Unitec Te Pūkenga Waitākere Campus, located at Ratanui Street in Waitākere, New Zealand. Our institution is not just your typical university, but a vibrant establishment and a point of interest for those seeking diverse educational opportunities.
At Unitec Te Pūkenga Waitākere Campus, we take pride in offering a wide range of programmes and short courses that cater to various interests and career paths. Whether you are interested in architecture or zookeeping, we have the perfect programme for you.
One of the highlights of our campus is the gallery, which serves as a platform to showcase the latest contemporary art and design projects by our talented students, staff, and other artists and designers from Aotearoa New Zealand. Guided by the values of Te Noho Kotahitanga, our project space for research and creative practice supports teaching and learning through a rich annual programme of activities, including exhibitions, seminars, workshops, and postgraduate examinations.
The name of our gallery, Toi o Wairaka, holds significant meaning. It was chosen by the School of Creative Industries kaimahi (staff), as it symbolizes our deep connection to the land and water. It pays homage to Rakataura, who discovered the aquifer, and Wairaka, who brought forth the puna (spring) that is the heart of Unitec. This name represents the spirit and essence of our institution.
Toi o Wairaka serves multiple roles within our campus. It is a research facility for both students and staff, a teaching and learning space for postgraduates and undergraduates, a meeting place for external art practitioners, and a professional arts space where industry learning can flourish. It encompasses various disciplines, including screen, moving image, craft, painting, print, photography, performance, sculpture, object, installation, design, and cutting-edge technologies.
We believe in extending the reach of the arts beyond the gallery walls, making it accessible to the wider community. As part of this commitment, we have introduced the Te Pātaka Art Trail, a community art trail that opened earlier this year at Unitec-Te Pūkenga. Our aim is to make art visible and engaging for the people of Tāmaki Makaurau and beyond.
Toi o Wairaka was officially inaugurated this week with the exhibition Mid-Year: Semester One Graduands, Design & Contemporary Art. This exhibition showcased the incredible work of talented individuals such as Alyssa Beckwith, Dhriti Bhatia, Glaszia Luwenta, Tusia Sione, and Elvira Trowbridge. It was a testament to the creativity and passion that thrives within our campus.
Curated by Gina Ferguson and her dedicated team, Toi o Wairaka has an exciting schedule of exhibitions and events planned for the remainder of 2023. For more information on upcoming events, please visit our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/uniteccreative/.
We invite you to explore the dynamic and inspiring environment of Unitec Te Pūkenga Waitākere Campus, where creativity, innovation, and learning come together to shape the future.

"Well set up classrooms"
"Great staff, great atmosphere, close to all amenities, great learning experience."
"Very informative and helpful in ways to see your future grow and mature"
"Not a good Tech at all, unreasonable exam Marking techniques. Lecturers are impolite and unpredictable towards the students. Student support centre is an absolute agony, they are not great to deal with as found them to be waste of time. Cafe and food counter is all well above the price as compared to other places. Hard and difficult parking places, It’s all mostly paid or hourly parking. The parking Wardens keeping round the clock watch on the cars parked and don’t spare anyone with their regular infringements fees. Their academic faculty is unkind, like a Gang squad and decides how things are to be done around there and also it is in their Hands for the type of treatments each students needs to go through, is all depends on the faculty. Unfortunately missed the mark, I will not Recommend to others who are thinking of studying here in the future. No stars, can’t change ratings above:("
"I attend computer courses here with "free for you". ie. No charge! At present I am doing " publisher".I find the instructors very helpful and they let you progress at your own pace. I would recommend them to anybody who wishes to up skill themselves."
