Oratia Kindergarten

Welcome to Oratia Kindergarten, a unique establishment located in Auckland, New Zealand. Currently closed due to recent flood damage, we are working diligently to resolve these issues and ensure a safe learning environment for our children. In the meantime, we have relocated our little ones to other AKA kindergartens in the area, and we warmly welcome new enquiries as we have places available.

At Oratia Kindergarten, we believe in empowering children to lead and explore their own learning. Our outdoor areas provide ample opportunities for play, discovery, and physical challenges, while our quiet spaces offer moments of tranquility. We value the importance of cohesive partnerships between teachers, children, parents, whānau (extended family), and the local community. In fact, we have developed a strong relationship with Oratia District Primary School, engaging in regular visits to their library, classrooms, and hall for invited events. These experiences not only foster confidence but also ease the transition into primary school.

Our Head Teacher is an early childhood education (ECE) representative for Communities of Learning – Kāhui Ako. This collaborative group of education and training providers work together to support children and young people in achieving their full potential. Sustainability is a key focus at Oratia Kindergarten, and we are proud participants in the Enviroschools programme. Our children actively engage in learning ways to protect and preserve our environment, including litterless lunchboxes, recycling, composting, and tending to our worm farm. We even have newly installed grey water tanks to water our gardens. Planting and harvesting from our own vegetable garden is a favorite activity, as is the friendly competition to grow the tallest sunflower from seed.

Our dedicated and passionate teachers are committed to early childhood education and helping children foster a love for nature and sustainable living. We base our quality learning programs on the New Zealand Early Childhood Curriculum, Te Whãriki. We believe in the importance of parent aspirations and actively include them in our curriculum planning. Building close partnerships with parents, we create individual development plans for children with additional learning needs.

Our kindergarten operates from Monday to Friday, from 8:30am to 2:30pm, and our office hours are from 8am to 4:45pm. We are closed during term breaks and public holidays. Stay connected with us by visiting our AKA blog to see what's happening in our extended network.
