Rangitoto Kindergarten

Welcome to Rangitoto Kindergarten, located in the beautiful city of Auckland, New Zealand. Situated at 2A Hythe Terrace in Mairangi Bay, our kindergarten is not just an establishment or point of interest, but a vibrant school that nurtures relationships and celebrates diversity.

At Rangitoto Kindergarten, we believe that relationships are the cornerstone of our kindergarten, and they are integrated into every aspect of our daily life. Our philosophy is deeply rooted in our kindergarten environment and culture. We see children, families/whānau, and teachers as leaders and experts, each bringing their unique perspectives and funds of knowledge.

As an integral part of our local Mairangi Bay community on the North Shore of Tāmaki Makaurau, Rangitoto Kindergarten takes its name from our maunga (mountain), Rangitoto, which is one of Auckland's most significant landmarks. Since opening our doors to children and families/whānau in November 1974, we have maintained a strong connection with our wider community.

We are proud to acknowledge Te Tiriti o Waitangi and are committed to partnering with the tangata whenua (people of the land) and incorporating tikanga Māori (Māori customs) into our practices. This commitment reflects our respect for the cultural diversity that enriches our kindergarten.

Rangitoto Kindergarten is also an Enviroschool Kindergarten, aligning with the kaupapa (purpose) of creating a healthy, peaceful, and sustainable world through collaborative teaching and learning. We embrace Papatuanuku, our natural world, and integrate sustainable, environmental practices into our program.

In addition to our Kindergarten program, we offer a Nature Kindergarten group. This unique experience allows our oldest children to venture into the local bush, where they can explore, discover, and delight in being immersed in nature.

Our dedicated staff at Rangitoto Kindy are passionate about creating real learning experiences for the children. They design activities that are relevant, topical, interesting, and thought-provoking, challenging the children to develop an awareness of the world around them.

Our learning environment is carefully crafted to inspire and engage young minds. We utilize natural materials, provide an amazing outdoor area, and offer ample space indoors for children to choose where they would like to play and engage.

We follow the Northern Auckland Free Kindergarten Association Inc.'s guidelines, ensuring that our practices align with the highest standards of early childhood education.
