Sunnynook Kindergarten

Welcome to Sunnynook Kindergarten, located at 50 Sunnynook Road in Auckland, New Zealand. As an establishment and point of interest, we are dedicated to providing a nurturing and educational environment for young children.

At Sunnynook Kindergarten, we believe in learning through play. Our qualified and passionate teachers take the time to get to know each child individually, discovering their unique interests and personalities. With this knowledge, we strive to inspire, motivate, and engage them in opportunities that support their growth and foster a positive attitude towards learning.

Our curriculum is designed to promote meaningful play, which not only stimulates children's brains but also enhances their social competence, physical development, and emotional well-being. We understand the importance of outdoor play, which is why our large and spacious outdoor area offers plenty of opportunities for children to explore, move, and learn alongside their friends. Our extra-large sandpit and beautiful gardens encourage young explorers to make discoveries in the natural environment.

We place great emphasis on the development of social and emotional skills. Our teachers are trained in the Incredible Years Teacher Programme, which supports children in self-regulation and overall social, emotional, and academic competence. During their time at Sunnynook Kindergarten, children have the chance to make friends, share, negotiate, compromise, take turns, develop resilience, and learn self-regulation – skills that are essential for lifelong learning. Additionally, our kindergarten is part of the Engage Programme, where we incorporate daily games that focus on emotional, cognitive, and behavioral skills to further support children's self-regulation.

Inclusivity is a core value at Sunnynook Kindergarten. We recognize that every child is unique and on their own learning journey. We work closely with families to respond to each child in ways that are meaningful to them and their individuality. Building strong and trusting relationships with families is important to us, as we believe that collaboration between parents and teachers is crucial in supporting each child's development.

Preparing children for their transition to school is a priority for us. We have established strong connections with both Sunnynook and Target Road Primary Schools, working closely with them to ensure a seamless transition for our students. Regular visits to the schools and sharing information about the school experience help familiarize our children with the next stage of their learning journey, instilling confidence and readiness for this important milestone.

We invite you to come and visit Sunnynook Kindergarten, where our dedicated teachers know each child well and work collaboratively to respond to their interests and strengths. Children enjoy positive relationships with their peers and adults, and our teachers' interactions are always respectful and responsive.

Our kindergarten operates Monday to Friday, from 8.30 am to 2.30 pm, and our office hours are from 8 am to 4.45 pm. Please note that we are closed during term breaks and public holidays.
