At the School of Rural Health, our primary focus is on improving health outcomes in rural communities and ensuring a sustainable rural health workforce. With eight clinical teaching sites spanning from Mildura in the north-west to Bairnsdale in the south-east, we are dedicated to serving the needs of regional areas.

If you grew up outside a major Australian city, you have an excellent opportunity to enhance your chances of getting an interview for medicine. We offer the Extended Rural Cohort of the Monash MD, which guarantees extended training in rural and regional Victoria. In small groups, you will learn from experienced and passionate clinicians who will know you by name, providing you with plenty of hands-on clinical experience.

For those interested in practicing medicine in rural or regional Australia after graduation, our Monash End-to-End Rural Cohort program allows you to experience it firsthand while studying the Monash MD. Additionally, we offer post-graduate training opportunities through our regional training hubs in north-west Victoria and Gippsland, enabling you to continue your medical training in a regional or rural area.

Our research vision is centered around achieving better health outcomes for rural, regional, and Indigenous communities. We collaborate with communities and health professionals to work towards this goal, ensuring that our research has a meaningful impact.

Placements are available for health professions students from Monash and other universities across north-west and south-east Victoria. Our clinical training sites are affiliated with regional hospitals and community-based health services, providing convenient accommodation options nearby.
