Darwin Hostel 88 Mitchell Street, Darwin City, Northern Territory 0800
About the Business
Welcome to Darwin Hostel, located in the heart of Darwin City on Mitchell Street. Our establishment, which opened in March 2020, is specifically designed to cater to the needs of international youth travelers. If you're a local looking for accommodation, we apologize, but our vibrant and social atmosphere may not be the right fit for you. Please review our policies before booking to avoid any potential refusal.
At Darwin Hostel, we offer shared bathrooms, shared kitchens, and shared rooms, creating a communal living experience that promotes social interaction and a sense of community. Our team has extensive travel experience and understands the feeling of missing home, which is why we strive to make our hostel a home away from home for all our guests.
With only 30 beds, Darwin Hostel provides a cozy and intimate environment where our staff can dedicate time to each customer. We are committed to assisting our guests with settling in Australia, finding employment, purchasing a car, and providing guidance on the best places to party and explore. We take pride in knowing each of our customers by name and aim to make everyone feel welcomed and valued.
As a backpacker-friendly establishment, we understand that many of our guests may be experiencing their first time away from their families. This means that they may occasionally be noisy, messy, or make mistakes, just as we all did in our youth. If you prefer a quieter atmosphere, it may be better to consider alternative options. Our mission is to provide a clean and safe environment for young international travelers, not cater to budget-conscious locals expecting luxury accommodations.
To enhance your stay, we offer free Wi-Fi, a BBQ area, a swimming pool, and weekly events. Our hostel is designed to be fun, relaxed, and secure, allowing you to experience the best of Darwin during your stay.
Please note that we are a shared facilities hostel, meaning that kitchens, bathrooms, and fridges are communal spaces. We encourage socializing and even host a beer and BBQ night every Monday to help break the ice and foster connections among guests.
For your convenience, we allow late check-ins as long as the payment is made and we receive a copy of your ID. Upon confirmation, you will receive an email or SMS with all the access codes you need to enter your room.
If you have already checked out but want to continue using our facilities or leave your bags, you are more than welcome to do so for the entire day.
Our dormitories have an age limit of 18 to 35 years old, and we reserve the right to cancel reservations that do not meet this requirement. However, there are no age restrictions for our private rooms. Please keep in mind that the atmosphere may be lively and occasionally messy, as our hostel caters to people in their 20s. We kindly ask that you embrace the youthful energy and refrain from complaining about the exuberance of the younger crowd.
Feel free to bring your own alcohol, but please note that glass containers are not permitted. We require a $50 cash deposit per person to maintain a positive atmosphere and ensure the security of our guests.
To maintain a peaceful environment, we do not allow speakers at any time. Any noise disturbances may result in eviction without a refund.
Please be aware that we have a strict no-refund policy unless there is an issue on our end. We kindly request that you book wisely and avoid wasting time with refund-related arguments.
If you have any questions about our rooms, services, or Darwin in general, our friendly staff will be more than happy to assist you. Book directly with us to support small businesses, as big tech companies often do not pay taxes in Australia.

"Super expensive for what it is. I would have expected a cleaner hostel. The place is quite messy and the hostel is still unfinished ( but you pay 45$ per night)."
"I stayed here for a couple of nights a few weeks ago and I loved it! The location is very good, with everything you need at a walking distance. There's a nice big pool, a tv room, the kitchen is big and has everything you need. The owner is also incredibly kind. He greeted me by name and clearly knew who was staying in his hostel, which I think is a plus. One day he brought over some delicious mangos we could eat, that was nice. After I had left, I realised I had forgotten a few things so I texted him and asked if he could mail them to me. He went to the post office that same day! Not every hostel owner would do that, I really appreciated it. This hostel truly felt like a home away from home and if I ever get back to Darwin, I know where I'll be staying!"
"Great Hostel, really enjoyed my time here. Love the free bbq on Monday and the whole vibe is really relaxed. For me way better than the other hostels where there’s party 24/7. Had a great time and met some good people!"
"The best hostel in Darwin if you like to chill and meet friendly, like-minded people rather than a hostel turning into a bar and nightclub everynight. I stayed at this hostel everytime I came back to Darwin from trips to visit the surrounding parks and it felt a bit like going home :) This place has a great vibe that's all! The new manager is taking good care of the place, cleaning and renovating bits and pieces. Thanks and, see you next time!"
"Very pleased with my last minute decision to stay here. Has a really relaxed atmosphere with a fantastic pool area to socialize around. The guy in charge of cleaning does a great job keeping the place clean and in order. I would recommend."
