"Adventure Backpackers must have once been a booming hostel, based off the old photos littering reception and size of the quarter usable kitchen. It now perminently houses some of Townsvilles less fortunate and feels like a block of council estate flats more than a hostel. Expect to be stared at by people from the balcony, followed to your room and have weird uncomfortable conversations. You can't really blame the hostel itself, reception staff were friendly but all they could really reccomend to do was a visit to Magnetic island, it's hard to sell a hostel this big and have rooms full when there just isn't the interest or investment in Townsville itself as a backpacking destination."

"Lady at the counter was very friendly and helpful. Sadly the room was pretty depressing, rubbish had been left in the room when we checked in. The air con condensation would drip on your head as you were leaving the room. Many of the toilets and showers were out of order. Didn't use any of the other facilities as we literally only slept and showered there. Not bad value if you just need to lay your head down somewhere but other than that, pretty bleak."

"DO NOT STAY HERE!!! So let me tell you about my delightful experience at adventure backpackers. I got there and the place was filthy. All the common areas being messy and full of garbage. The lady at the front desk was rude and stand offish. The rooms felt like a jail sell with springy mattresses and concrete floors. In the bath rooms they had 6-8 toilets and only a couple were actually useable. The “lounge” had one discussing couch and was infested with mosquitoes. The main issue I had wasn’t even with any of those things. I’m a young woman travelling alone and the place was so unsafe. I had guests who were very inappropriate with me and the whole place felt like a crack house. I posted a review when I got there because I genuinely do not want anyone to stay there essentially if you are a young woman. The owner then called me and tried to kick me out of the hostel if I didn’t delete my review. Absolute piece of work! This is by far my worst hostel experience and I was only there for 1 night. Try civic hostel instead they are clean and friendly and it’s a great place to stay!"

"Nice hostel, with nice prices. Big bathroom's, and clean. It's very dark at night, I would recommend more lights in the halls. It's looks like many people live here permanently."

"A chilled, easy-going backpackers that's easy on the wallet and just a stone's throw from the marina, and Palmer Street restuarant strip. Spacious room with a bar fridge and air con. The building isn't new, and may look rough around the edges, but the place is looked after well, clean, with beautifully manicured tropical plants dotted around. Large cooking facilities, pool table, laundry facilities and roof top pool. The service was great, and you definitely feel like you get your money's worth. The only thing to note is that some rooms may not get access to the WIFI."
