Cairns Private Hospital
About the Business
Welcome to Cairns Private Hospital, a leading healthcare institution located at Cairns City, Upward Street, 1. As an establishment dedicated to health and wellness, we strive to provide exceptional medical care and services to our patients.
We regret to announce that Cairns Private Hospital will be closing its maternity service from 1 November 2023. This decision was not made lightly, but due to the challenges in recruiting specialized obstetricians and pediatricians, we are unable to ensure the safety and high level of care required for mothers and their babies.
We understand that this news may be disappointing and distressing for some patients. Rest assured, we are working closely with our obstetricians and expecting parents to ensure a smooth transition and to provide guidance on alternative options for their birthing needs. We have been in discussions with Cairns Public Hospital, who have assured us of their capacity to support the additional births.
While we are saddened to end this service, we remain committed to delivering high-quality private healthcare in Cairns. We have embarked on a $20 million development project to create two additional operating theaters and a state-of-the-art sterilizing department. Furthermore, we have acquired land for future expansion, implemented solar panels to reduce our carbon footprint, and extended our services to include community psychology and allied health services through Ramsay Psychology and Ramsay Health Plus clinics. In addition, we have invested $500,000 in equipment to enhance our expanding ENT service, including the addition of two new ENT surgeons.
At Cairns Private Hospital, we understand the importance of accessible healthcare. Our After Hours GP Clinic provides convenient access to respected local GPs. This appointment-based service is available on weekday evenings and weekend afternoons and early evenings. Located within the hospital premises, the clinic offers easy access to pathology, radiology, and pharmacy services. To book an appointment, please call 4052 5305 after 12pm.
We prioritize patient satisfaction and continuously strive to improve our services. Net Promoter Score surveys enable us to gauge patient expectations and identify areas for enhancement. We have also made it easier for consumers to access information about our excellent patient outcomes and initiatives.
Patient safety is of utmost importance to us. We have implemented initiatives such as the Ramsay Rule and the Speak Up For Patient Safety Program to promote a culture of safety and maintain high standards of care.
Ramsay Health Care's slogan, "People Caring for People," reflects our commitment to prioritizing the well-being of our patients and staff. We understand that care is not just a value statement but an integral part of our daily operations, ensuring that we meet the expectations of our valued customers.
Thank you for choosing Cairns Private Hospital. We are dedicated to providing exceptional healthcare services and look forward to serving you and the Cairns community.

"I had torn meniscus surgery on the 13th and had to stay in for 2 nights, Even tho I don’t remember all of what happened on the morning of Friday 14th thank you to the nurses and doctors who made sure I was ok"
"I scheduled an appointment with the doctor for 6:40 pm and the nurse told me that I would only be seen the doctor at 7:50 pm. And the consultation costs $360, that's unbelievable."
"Maternity Department We had the pleasure to experience our first birth in the Cairns Private Hospital. Personally I was into water birth and hypnobirthing, and I share those information with the professionals, they respect and support us completely in our birth preference. Our midwifes were Cath, Teresa, Alex and Roselyn, their commitment to excellence and professionalism has truly exceeded our expectations, and we are grateful to have had the opportunity to learn so much with such dedicated individuals. Their unwavering dedication to respecting our wishes has not gone unnoticed, and it is clear that they have a true vocation for what they do. It is evident that for them, this is not just a job, but a passion that they take very seriously. We truly appreciate the time and effort that they have put into making sure that our needs were met, and that we received the highest level of service possible. Their attention to detail, follow-through, and willingness to go above and beyond have been truly remarkable, and we cannot thank you enough for your hard work. Once again, thank you for your exceptional service, and for making my experience with you a truly positive one."
"It is our second time in this hospital and we always unsatisfied. There is not enough staff, beds , equipment, specialist etc. Last night I had to bring my wife with 7 weeks pregnant with excessive bleeding, I have to be honest when saying the Doctors were very supportive unfortunately they do as much as they can. My wife was sent home with slightly pain with no success of bleed to be stop. As I said they did not have the right person to complete an Ultrasound and now I have to take her back to another clinic to complete further tests."
"If I could give 0 stars I would have lived in Cairns for 45yrs not sure who owns this hospital now but the care is 0 my mum just had a double mastectomy day 5 now still has not been bathed. She can not bath her self as she has drains everywhere. She was told to give herself a bird bath are they serious. Room has not been vacuumed in 5 days. Food is dreadful. My family an I have been taking meals up as there is not enough food. She is 82 when you are spending so much money on being here. How hard is it to bathe a patient, feed them, and clean. I had to ask them to clean mums room and to please wash her. They said they were busy. They was only 1 other person on the ward. But 4 sitting behind the desk when I requested they do their job. All the days my self and other family members have been there NO STAFF has ever come into her room. Doctor requested drains could come out after 2 hrs of being with mum know one took them out. Hopefully after my request to do their job, something has happened but now 4 hrs has gone by no bath still of drains out."
