Members' Lounge 40 Macquarie Street, Hobart, Tasmania 7000
About the Business
Welcome to the Members' Lounge, a premier establishment located in the heart of Hobart, Australia. Situated at 40 Macquarie Street, this bar, night club, and point of interest offers an unparalleled experience for those seeking a vibrant and sophisticated atmosphere.
But the Members' Lounge is more than just a venue for entertainment. It is affiliated with the Foundation of the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (TMAG), the main fundraising body for the museum. Comprised of community-minded supporters, the Foundation plays a crucial role in ensuring TMAG can continue to thrive through giving and philanthropy.
Since 1984, the Foundation has raised over six million dollars for TMAG, providing vital support for art acquisitions, exhibitions, research, conservation of the collection, and education programs. By joining the Foundation with a minimum annual gift of $500, you not only contribute to the preservation of Tasmania's rich cultural heritage but also gain access to a range of exclusive benefits.
Membership in the Foundation entitles you to discounts at the Museum Shop and Courtyard Cafe, as well as access to the TMAG Members' Lounge. This special space serves as the heart of the Foundation, bringing together a community of passionate supporters who share a love for Tasmania's art, science, and historical culture.
As a member, you will have the opportunity to engage with TMAG's curators and specialists through a variety of special interest groups focused on art, science, and education. These groups provide a platform for you to deepen your knowledge and share your passion with like-minded individuals.
The TMAG Foundation Ltd. charges a non-tax deductible annual administration fee of $100, which grants you card access to the Member's Lounge and additional privileges such as discounts and invitations to major exhibition first nights. Beyond this fee, any further donations you make are tax deductible, allowing you to contribute even more to the invaluable work of TMAG.
Funds raised by the TMAG Foundation Ltd. are dedicated to the acquisition and exhibition of works of art and objects of historic, scientific, educational, or social interest. They also support TMAG's education and public programs, specialist research of the State Collection, and its role as the custodian of Tasmania's cultural heritage. Rest assured, the funds raised through the Foundation are not used for TMAG's normal operating costs.
We invite you to join the Foundation and experience the joy of supporting your museum and gallery in good company. Whether you are a new member of the TMAG Foundation community or a long-standing supporter, your contribution is greatly appreciated and makes a significant impact.
We are proud to showcase the Portrait of Henry Foss by Thomas Griffith Wainewright, an important acquisition to Tasmania's public collection made possible by funds raised by the TMAG Foundation Ltd. This stunning artwork represents just one example of the incredible achievements made through the collective efforts of our passionate supporters.
So come and immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere of the Members' Lounge, knowing that your presence supports the ongoing preservation and celebration of Tasmania's rich cultural heritage. We look forward to welcoming you and sharing in the amazing stories, precious objects, and art that TMAG so diligently cares for and curates.
